Guest guest
Hey Everyone, Had a quick repo question. Ethan goes in for his re-eval on Jan 9th, but I am seeing some great improvments. Still see some of his flat spot and little bossing on the right front, but MUCH MUCH better. I was wondering how much if any ear misalignment is acceptable??? I mean obviously none of our ears line up perfectly, but I do still see that the right ear is a bit forward compared to the left. Don't know if I am being too hopeful, but in all honesty I am very happy with the changes in his head and if I can expect these changes will continue I am wondering if a band is necessary. I guess we will see what the neuro says on the 9th...keep your fingers crossed. Kim (Ethan 3.5 months)

Guest guest
Kim, Congratulations on your repo progress! It feels so good to know your doing something to improve it, doesn't it? I know there are measurments that can tell you if the ears are within a " normal " range but I don't know what the numbers are - either 0-3 mm or 0-6 mm. From what I have read, the ear assymetry is the hardest part to fix and is usually the last part to correct, even with a band. I have seen some improvements with Noah's but there is still some assymetry and I think I'm fine with that. Are you doing tort stretches? I can't remember if he has it or not. My doc said Noah doesn't have it but I think he does and am doing the stretches anyway. Noah's ears are in slightly different positions, but when we started the left one was also kind of " twisted " differently than the right. I think that was due to mild tort and has gotten a lot better. Let us know about the appointment on the 9th. Even though I have decided against a band I have made an appmt. with our local Hanger place to get him measured. He'll be 10 mos. so I figure I can't expect to see much more improvemnt with repo at that age. If his numbers are really bad then I can decide if I want to get a script for a doc ( I think it will work better than the Hanger for his age, but CT is far away). Guest guest
Kerry, Thanks for the quick reply. Yeah, it definately feels good that there is some correction being made. I guess this is what being on his tummy practically all day (it feel like) achieved. I am just still so worried about banding esp when I read about some of the difficulties people are having (rashes, kids hating it initially, etc..) I really hope the neuro see's the improvements and we plan to take our photos. Are you comfortable with Noah's head/ears the way they are? Or do you want more improvement? Sounds like your not sure either about banding. I guess we are trying to think down the road too. Both my husband and I wear glasses, so that could be in Ethan's future and if his ears are misaligned is that gonna cause problems...all these unanswered questions? He is still young so we have that in our favor. I am starting all the appeal work should a band be necessary. That is a whole other factor. We will do the band obviously if necessary, but if his case is mild you wonder if the fight with the ins company is worth it if we are seeing correction already. Guest guest
I believe that your son can see many more improvements from repo. I started repo for my daughter at 3.5 months and she no longer needs a band. I don't know if you feel your sons head is severe or not, but if it is mild to moderate I think repo can be very effective. However, I am NOT sure about the ear assymetry. I know it can improve but I don't know how much. godsgirlthanprecious <ethanprecious@...> wrote: Hey Everyone,Had a quick repo question. Guest guest
The first visit to the neuro he rated Ethan's head as being a " moderate " case. I know we can become obsessive with looking at their little heads and I do see some imperfections still (bossing and ear assymetry), but everyone else (family, friends) says they don't even notice it. I guess I am just stuck on this whole " cosmetic " thing. If this is PURELY cosmetic...I could live with his head being the way it is. I Think I am nervous about what the neuro may say and am hoping to not have to band Ethan if we really don't have to. Kim (Ethan 3.5 months) > Hey Everyone, > Had a quick repo question. Guest guest
Kim, I decided back at 6 mos. that I was fine with his head the way it was and I would not pursue a band (may even be too mild for one to work). I was hoping though that repo would give him some correction. I have seen some, but noy complete correction (due to age I'm sure). The appmt. at Hanger to get him measured is just my kind of my last effort to make sure I'm doing the right thing before I consider his head " done " . If the numbers are much worse than I'm thinking I could reconsider a doc while he is still young enough for one. It's not as much about the numbers, though, as how it looks to you that really matters. So even with bad numbers I may be fine with it. I'll let you know! Guest guest
Kim, Your worry with the ears aside from the cosmetic issue is there should be enough correction to allow for a pair of glasses to be worn without difficulty. Hope that helps put it in perspective. CAROLG > > Hey Everyone, > Had a quick repo question. Ethan goes in for his re-eval on Jan 9th, > but I am seeing some great improvments.
