The last two days with my 27 mo son I almost posted that I've

concluded my son is not autistic. His language has progressed from 2

words to about 30 just over a month- and he's accurate. His cousin

was over yesterday and they brought their parakeet. He played with

his cousin and was hysterically interactive with the bird. Just

everything about him seemed 'normal'. Today we had playgroup. Back

was my son. He sat on my lap the entire time, as if the floor was

made of hot coals. He held in his hand the two crackers I gave him

from home, but not eating them and not giving them back. I watched

the other children his age build with the blocks, play the mitten

game, etc etc. Not Zach. He looked at them, then buried his head

into my armpit. At circle he was angry that the other kid had sat so

close to us. He pushed at the kid then buried his head back into my

armpit. At snack time, he did say " car-car' when they handed out the

crackers. I watched the other kids eat their applesauce and

crackers. Zach wanted to eat the crackers that they provided, so the

teacher came over and gave him one, and he stuffed the whole thing in

his mouth, and like usual screamed for another one before the first

one was even chewed. Finally out in the playyard, he decided after

much persuasion, to go over and open and shut the doors of the

playhouse. He did this for the remaining ten minutes we were there.

I asked his therapists about the oro-sensory issues with stuffing his

mouth and recieved a blank look. His OT did mention she had issues

with how he was opening and closing the doors. I talked to her about

how good and normal he had been acting at home, and she said...yes,

but he was at HOME.

Later, I took my 12 year old into the mental health clinic for her

regular appointment for her mood disorder and to refill her

medication. We were discussing the austim group I have online here,

and mentioned that a lof of the things the 'aspies' talk about I

identify with my daughter. She looked at me and said very matter of

factly- " well we have that on the list to rule out, but we haven't

done so. " I could feel the tears just welling up in my eyes. COULD

MY DAUGHTER HAVE ASPERGERS? I guess it would make sense. The

therapist started talking about bi-polar disorder then as if she

believes Alyx is more along those lines. I have very little belief

that she is bi-polar, but from what I've read on aspergers, I can't

say she fits that mold either. From a very young age, my daughter

has been overly talkative- i mean talking talking talking

talking..this and that everything under the sun. Socially, she's

always wanted friends, but always acts akward when she is with them

and very immature. Also, she's very very needy....no developmental

delays though she has trouble learning. She was diagnosed with ADHD

at 8, but now they say that was an innacurate diagnosis. Lately, she

claims to hear voices and see things that she knows aren't there-but

its almost like she's creating this fantasy land. She's almost

totally secluded herself from her peers. She says they treat her

badly and don't understand her. Does anyone know where I can find

teen signs of aspergers?

Sorry but thanks for bearing with me.
