Guest guest
Thanks for the reply Donna. Now that you are a year post-op how are you feeling? Do you have any residual problems, etc... Are you glad you had it done?
Guest guest
- HI . Prior to the surgery, I was a mess. Years ago (like 10), it was suggested to me to have this surgery done, but only for cosmetic reasons and I did not have the money, nor did I want to have to through the surgery. However, a couple years ago I began suffering with all kinds of symptoms, dizziness, fullness in ears, ear pain, headaches, neck aches, back aches, etc....--The worst thing that I had trouble dealing with was the dizziness. I really and honestly wanted to die. I felt that bad. I can remember sleeping laying flat on my back with ice packs under my neck because I was in so much pain. I felt like I was 90 years old. I had MRIs done, hearing tests, etc. Everything came out negative. I finally found my ortho who specializes in TMJ and had a perfect explanation for every symptom I suffered from. I had much difficulty in getting my surgery approved but it finally went through. I had a splint for 6 months prior to braces, then a lower palate expander, braces and finally surgery. It has been a LONG haul. I am 100% happy I had this done. I feel 95% better. I still have fullness in my ears and some days I just want to scream because it drives me crazy, but compared to where I was before, there is no comparison. I have accepted the fact that I may have this feeling forever. That is my only " residual " problem. I have no jaw pain/problems eating. I can open more than before surgery (41 mm) now. My teeth come together, I can actually bite into a sandwich and bite through the lettuce, I feel much more confident with my profile/smile. It was worth it for me. I think most people on this board share that sentiment, although unfortunately all do not. I hope this answers your questions. I am off for vacation for a while. I will pray that you will be feeling better. Just try to be patient. Like I said, it's a long road and it sometimes gets difficult. For me, psychologically it was harder than physically. Some days the embarassment of not being able to talk properly, having rubber bands cris-crossed across my teeth, lingering swelling, was too much to handle. But all of it (usually) goes away. It just takes a while! Hang in there Donna In orthognathicsurgerysupport , " lintihar " <jimlinda@t...> wrote: > Thanks for the reply Donna. > > Now that you are a year post-op how are you feeling? Guest guest
Hi Donna! I'm new to the group and just read your post. I have an anterior open bite of approx 2 mm, a gummy smile, receding chin, sleep problems and almost 90% of all TMJ symptoms listed...including the dizziness/fatigue. I'm 22 years old and a student, so this really affects my concentration. I have a few questions concerning your treatment which I hope you can answer... 1. How bad was your open bite? Did it cause a lot of wear on your back molars? 2. Did you have an MRI prior to surgery & treatment for your TMJ? If so, did they noticed displaced discs? I have bilateral disc displacement and was told I need surgery to place the discs back into place before doing anything with the jaw (orthognathic surgery). 3. Where did they cut in your jaw? I had tooth #7 extracted and am awaiting an implant. I'm worried that they might need to cut around tooth #7...in which case, they can't do any orthognathic procedure. 4. How long did you have to have braces before/after the procedure? Did you you feel more pain with the braces on? Did you need your teeth wired shut after the procedure? Thanks so much! -SK > > Thanks for the reply Donna. > > > > Now that you are a year post-op how are you feeling? Do you have > any > > residual problems, etc...
