Guest guest
Yes, I have trouble with my eyes too. They are always red, mostly dry but sometimes they water for no reason, they are often itchy, and sometimes they hurt. Supposedly, I don't have Sjrogen's(?) but the optomotrist says my problems are definitely connected to my PA. I will have plugs put in when I get back to NY in the springtime. In the meantime I try and remember to use eye drops regularly and I am also supposed to wash my eyelids with a mild baby soap and a Q-tip a few times a day. I almost always forget to do this. that's about all I can tell you. Peggy B

A while back I woke up with all red blotches in the white part of my eye and it was painful and the eye doctor said it was related to arthritis. Now I just have dry eyes and cannot wear my contact lenses as long as most people. Janet

Guest guest
I went to the eye dr after dealing with a red (and sometimes painful) eye. He said it was episcleritis (sp) and that it could be due to a systemic disease. I would go get any eye problems checked out. PS -I haven't had time to post my intro, but I promise I'll get to it soon. Liz

Hello, itchy, dry eyes are common with ALL forms of autoimmune disease. I see an eye doctor who specializes in treating autoimmune patients, and she recommends endura, which is a moisturizing eye drop. I use it about 3 times a day and it keeps things under control. Also, there is a type of conjunctivitis that comes with PA where you get lesions on your eyes. I had this once, it was very unpleasant and interfered with my vision. So it is not a bad idea to get in to see an opthamologist...mine also gave me a list of things to watch out for...ie if they are just itchy then up the endura usage, but if they are itchy and red for more than a few days, I need to go see her. Hope that helps
Guest guest
We went to the Ped. today and got some not so great news and I'm feeling really sad. First Chase's head still grew too much. The Ped. was monitoring it for a month to see if it's growing too rapidly and it is. So they have to do an ultrasound Fri. and check on that. Basically to make sure fluid is not going to impede brain growth. So scary. Luckily his fontanel is still open and will not require sedation. It's so ironic we have to hope for enough grow to get good correction with the band and now in Chase's case not too much. Then the eye issues I've mentioned yesterday and in the past. I'd been thinking for a while that he was kind of crossed eyed. The ped. did not see it in his previous visit. So over the past month I've been keeping an eye on it. I thought the cross eyed was looking better to me and then lately if been noticing a problem with his eyelid. So today at first she didn't see either issue and said his bridge is wide and many babies have one eye open more than the other. Then luckily later in the exam his eye " acted up " as I've been seeing and she's now concerned. She saw the left eye crossing intermittently and is not sure what's wrong with the right eye exactly. The left eye was obviously weakened from the tort. since when he was smaller he could not turn his head left and moved the eye only to compensate for both the tort. and being thrown off by plagio I suppose. And the right eye (on the side of the forehead bossing) there's something going on with the eyelid or eye socket or both. She's not diagnosed anything yet. It's not closing properly and when he is laying on his back playing with something on his tummy the eye looks very misaligned. It's difficult to explain. Kind of bulgy sort of. I can't explain it well. So he has to see an Ophthalmologist for that There's no appointments soon. So I'll have to worry about that. I'll call often though to check on a cancellation. I worry about the right eye being that it's on the " flat side " . I wonder if it has anything to do with being pushed forward like the forehead. I think I'm going to call CT to see if they've seen this in the past because when he was younger he did not have this issue at all. It's developed in the last few months I'd say. I can't say exactly though. And then she was concerned about no PT/OT. Still no EI therapy yet, week 3 and the worse part is the out patient OT therapy he was receiving at the hospital, which was graet and I only stopped becasue EI started, they no longer have space for him. So the Ped. office is going to help me with EI to try to speed things up, since the PT quit and I had to change agencies and I'm going to call the insurance co. to try to get out of network PT and OT tomorrow. Lastly I'd have to say to people who think that it's not important to treat plagio, wait to treat or maybe never treat the plagio. thinking it will get better itself unfortunately Chase now is an example of how the complications of plagio. and related tort. And I can't imagine what would have happened if we waited longer to treat it, waited for insurance etc. or didn't treat it at all. The complications may have been much worse. Sorry for the long story. I'm upset and needed to vent. Sherry Chase (7 1/2 months) Tort. DOCband 2/

Guest guest
Hi Sherry, So sorry to hear about all of your worries. I'm sure you are concerned about Friday and the unknown. But, this too shall pass. I will certainly pray for you and Chase. At least your Ped got to see the eye thing for herself and it can now be delt with. YOU ARE NOT LOSING YOUR MIND!! And, you are not making a big deal over nothing! You are doing great things for Chase by being so proactive. You are his best advocate. He will always know that you took good care of him and did whatever was necessary, scary or not. Keep up the good work. We are rooting for you! By the way, I took a look at Chase's pictures, and he is a cutie!! I love that dark hair and those eyes!! Seems like he did a really good job posing for the camera, too!! --- In Plagiocephaly , " alwell_sherry " <type916@...> wrote: > > We went to the Ped. today and got some not so great news and I'm > feeling really sad. Guest guest
about the large head/fluid thing my ped. said either it's nothing just extra fluid around the skull or a drainage problem that is fixed by opening a drain into the spinal cord. Sounds scary to me. She says it's easy to fix just important to catch. I'm crossing my fingers it's the external skull fluid of course. I don't know how I'd bear surgery. Guest guest
Sherry, That's it! had extra fluid, 2 neurosurgeons said it was nothing to worry about. :-) My fingers are crossed that, that is what's going on with Chase. > > > > > > > > > > We went to the Ped. today and got some not so great news and > I'm > > > > > feeling really sad.
Guest guest
Thanks for keeping your fingers crossed! I know he has bump from fluid build up under his seam/velcro so hopefully it's external plus my husband and I have big heads. We were surprised when he was born with a " normal " head size. Maybe he's just catching up (ha ha) they actually measured our heads too. Do you think I should ask CT about the eye things? One of my new twin neices name is and the ohter Arianna. Do you call her Gia or anything else to shorten it? With your 6 kids you've probably bypassed most childhood ailments. Chase is getting tooth 3 and 4 along with 1 and 2 popping up still. Poor baby. I feel he still has never enjoyed life yet. I'm hoping in May after the band is gone it'll be better. He's such a happy baby still amazingly. Guest guest
Sherry, I have 3 older sisters and none of them understood what I was going through. My best friend didn't either. This board was such a huge help to me when I was first starting out. I'll be forever grateful to the members of this group who helped. 7 babies in one year!! Wow you all must have been pretty busy. lol I love babies, I wanted to have twins. Never did though, I do have 6 children, just not any sets of twins. We're done now though, I'm getting too old to be having any more children. My youngest is SO spoiled, she'd freak if we did have another one! lol Yea, plagio is booming, unfortunately. We were all belly sleepers so we all have nice round heads, well most of us do. You'd think with the numbers rising the way they are, more would be done to prevent it. I'd love to meet you and Chase one day. The kids are on vacation in April from the 8th until the 16th, maybe we could meet up in the city somewhere. I'd bring with me, not all my kids I'd be too nervous to have all of them with me in the city. I'd come w/o hubby so I wouldn't have to rush right back to LI. You know maybe do lunch or something. Let me know if any of those days are good for you. I'm off to bed, I'm tired. Talk to you tomorrow. u > > > > > > > > > > We went to the Ped. today and got some not so great news and > I'm > > > > > feeling really sad. Guest guest
Sherry, It most likely is just fluid. I would mention it to your ortho, it can't hurt, right? My hubby has a huge head, he's in the 98th percentile! LOL I'll tell you about it one day. We call , Na-na, Gigi, Gia and Louis. lol I'll tell you about that too another day. I think it's better when they get more than one tooth at a time, get it done and over with not have to deal w/pain all over again. Chase, HAS enjoyed life he knows nothing different, you know? As long as he's a happy boy and he is he's enjoying his life. How could he not with a mommy like you? Guest guest
thanks for your wishes and prayers. I'm doing my best to hang in there. As I'm sure you know some days are harder than other but this group is wonderful. Yes I'd started to think I was nuts, paranoid, over analyzing all of it so although I wish it didn't exist it is being dealt with and you're right that's what's most important. Thanks I know I'm not an impartial judge but I think he's so cute too. His hair is wonderful. His ortho at CT said he's like a lamb. His hair got a little drier from the band when he was little it was like rubbing silk. It's still so soft and thick. I try to stick it up on the top of the band and in the back the curls are curling around the edge of the band. He did do a wonderful job posing. That was in Jan. very early in the year and his eyes weren't as bad then. I went back to look at pictures to make sure (ha ha) And I'd have to say he's a sweeter baby than he looks. thanks so much again.
