Guest guest
Hi Joann, Welcome to the group! It is very common to need an adjustment or 4 before the " just right fit " is found. Is his band obstructing his view? The bands are made a little bit big to allow room to grow. Your ortho may not want to shave too much off of the front of the band b/c that may be a holding point. As long as the red mark is fading with in the hour off, all is good. If it gets redder, then I think you should leave it off of him and go in on Monday for another adjustment. Good luck! Keep us posted on your little man. Which CT are you going to? Take care, > > Hi, my son is 6 1/2 months old. He got is DOC band on Wed late > afternoon. Guest guest
Thanks for responding . Just to let you know 4 day now and red mark is much better. Just slightly red now. It just seems to fall past his eyebrows and hit the bridge of his nose. By the way, I am at the Dallas CT center. Thanks again. JoAnn > > > > Hi, my son is 6 1/2 months old. Guest guest
JoAnn, If it's hitting the bridge of his nose it needs to be trimmed up a bit. You're in good hands at the Dallas CT, we've had a lot of members use them. :-) Are you able to post pics of him in his band? > > > > > > Hi, my son is 6 1/2 months old. Guest guest
Hi Joanne, Strangely enough, we have almost the exact same situation. My son is 5 mo. old and has been in his band for a week and two days now. We go to the Dallas CT and Mendy is our therapist (I'm assuming she's yours as well since she's out right now!). Anyway, my son developed a large, very dark red " patch " over his left eyebrow after his first adjustment. His band seemed very loose to me after the adjustment (which I understand is normal to allow for growth) but I think this aggrevated him and he kept hitting at the band and scooting it around. In my belief, this caused the mark over his brow. The red mark did not fade even after 18 hours off - it was almost like a " rugburn " or the type of mark you'd see if you were to get a burn on your forehead from a curling iron, you know? Of course, we noticed this on a Friday evening before his bath, so we cannot take him in until Monday to have it looked at. It is just too bad to put back on him until someone can look at it. I am sad that his regular therapist (Mendy) is out right now because she knows him and his situation!!! Anyway, best of luck to you with your little one. Please let me know how it turns out - hopefully they can fix my son's on Monday. Perhaps we will run into eachother sometime in the Dallas CT?!?! Very best, > > Hi, my son is 6 1/2 months old. Guest guest
, My son occasionally gets the same exact thing from his DOC band. I also think it is from the band being a bit loose and rubbing on his forehead. We put a bandaid over the spot, changing it daily until the spot goes away (usually after a day or two). Sometimes the spot looks like a rash, so I put hydrocortisone cream on it as well. Our therapist (CT in Paramus, NJ) actually told me that putting a bandaid on could make things worse because it would be an extra layer, making the band tighter in that area. We have not seen this to be the case - - the bandaid protects the skin from the rubbing of the band and allows it to heal. Hope this helps! , mom to Owen (13 months, DOC band #2 tomorrow) > > > > Hi, my son is 6 1/2 months old. He got is DOC band on Wed late > > afternoon. Guest guest
Hi , Those are great ideas! Thanks for the reply. I'm glad to hear that someone else has experienced that. We actually left the band off for a full day and two nights and the mark finally went away. He's been back in his band now for 24 hours and is doing fine - my guess is that his head has grown a bit and the band is not so loose anymore - maybe it fits better now so the " rub " mark is not reappearing??? Thanks again for your reply and best to you and your little one, (Mom to Wes in Dallas (5 mo. old and banded for 1 1/2 wks.) > > > > > > Hi, my son is 6 1/2 months old. Guest guest
, Please do not put a bandaid on your son's head. If you're having a problem area, your ortho can add moleskin to the inside of your son's band. Ask YOUR ortho what is or her protocol is for treating this. Keep us posted. > > > > > > Hi, my son is 6 1/2 months old. He got is DOC band on Wed late > > > afternoon. Guest guest
Hi , Gotcha. Luckily, the area has faded (after a full day and two nights) and he has been back in his band red-spot free now for over 24 hours! I'm thinking maybe his head grew just enough to keep the helmet on more snugly??? Anyway, that's good to know that there is an option (moleskin!) which our therapist can do if this happens again. Since it happened on a Friday, I was at a loss!!! Thanks to all again for your input and help.
Guest guest
Hi , Check out this link about moleskin: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moleskin I've been a member of this group since May 2002. My plagio/tort baby , graduated from her DOCband May 14, 2003. I came here looking for help. It took me 3 different doctors just to get her tort diagnosed! I took her to many specialists looking for help for her plagio. I was told so much bull, it was pathetic. One of NY's top neurosurgeons told me, " yes, your dd does have plagio with facial asymmetry but a band won't help her! " I ended up taking her to the Cranial Tech in NJ for a free evaluation. They told me she had moderate plagio and would benefit from a DOCband. They took pictures of her and wrote a report. They sent it to her pediatrician via over night fed ex. My pediatrician apologized to me, she told me she had NO idea how bad was. She then promptly wrote me a script for a DOCband. She received over 90+% correction and her ear and facial asymmetry are gone. I'm so happy to hear the group is helpful to you. This board was a god send to me when I was just starting out. I'm still here b/c I want to help parents the way I was helped. :-) Take care, -- In Plagiocephaly , " lisahigh95 " <LiLiHigh@...> wrote: > > Thanks so much for your support, .
