, Oh she is/was not happy at all with it on!! It's a STARband helmet, looks different than most I've seen does it to you? She sweats like a PIG in it!!!! Everytime I take it off of her her head is soaked!!! Her orthotist told us that he can drill a couple holes in it like air holes because she is so warm blooded. The thing that stinks right now is I NEED to call him because after an hour of having it off there are 4 red spots that will not go away which means there is to much pressure on those areas and she'll need it readjusted BUT I have laringitis (spelling?) and have no voice so I can't call them up LOL!!!!! Calgon take me away!!!!!!! Bobbi :)rmanias <manias@...> wrote: Bobbi,Poor thing! She doesn't look happy at all! What kind of helmet is

that? Do you think she's hot since it's a full helmet? It can take a few days to adjust to the temperature change. Hope today is better :) __________________________________________________

Amy, Thank you so much!! I've been so emotional today, crying on and off!! It just breaks my heart to see her like that!! I know she will adjust and so will I but it's so hard right now!! She has a STARband helmet. I guess from the ones I've seen in pics I wasn't expecting hers to look like it does. I thought it would have the opening at the top and when I saw it I was kinda in shock, it's huge LOL!! Because of her head shape, how it's so narrow in the back he had to make it a full helmet and he thought it would be easier to get it on and off by making it this way. Most of them open up like at the side, well hers you grab in the front and back and pull like outwards so it like breaks it in half, does that make sense? LOL!! So it opens totally different than the ones I have seen. Bobbi :)Amy Posner <amy.l.posner@...> wrote: Bobbi,My heart goes out to you, but be strong. She will adjust. I *think* he's at the hospital today and not in his office but the spots faded a little more so I'm just going to keep a close eye on it today and see if they come back again when she has the helmet put back on today. Nope not the scaphy helmet, it's the STARband, Kaitlyn has torticollis and positional plagiocephaly. Her right forehead bone sticks out 1/2 an inch farther than her left, her right ear is more forward than the left, the whole right side of her head is flat and the left is round and she has a bad flat spot on the back right hand side of her head. I think she has both actually because her head is also oblong shape, it's really hard to describe LOL!! She has those issues like I described, her head also is like oblong shaped and then kinda curves to the left in the back, you'd have to see it to know what I'm talking about. She got the band late yesterday afternoon, we got out of the docs office at around 2:00, he said she

didn't have to wear the band home just to start it when we got home but she slept til 6:30 so I'm making today her actual first day with the helmet so today it's one hour on and one hour off, she doesn't wear it at naptime or bedtime, tomorrow it's 2 hrs on and 1 hr off, same thing she doesn't wear it at naptime or bedtime, on Sunday she wears it for 4 hrs then one hour off and then she wears it at naptime and bedtime, Monday it's 8 hrs on and 1 hr off and wear it at naptime and bedtime, then on Tuesday she starts the 23 hours on and one hour off. I'm gonna keep putting it on her today and this weekend and if the red spots aren't going away then I'll call first thing Monday morning to have it adjusted some more because I have to head that way anyways to take her to physical therapy so both hospitals are right by each other so it'll work out perfect. It stinks having to deal with a cranky baby because she is teething, has a cold, then she gets the helmet and hates it and

then me being sick LOL so it hasn't been a fun day!! It can only get better right? LOL!!rmanias <manias@...> wrote: Poor Bobbi! Can you email the ortho instead of calling? She must have the scaphy helmet (STARlight???). Is her head long and narrow? Those do look different because scaphy is so different from plagio and brachy. How often do you remove the band? I think we removed it every hour or two to dry off the head and the band. I hope you get in to get those red spots taken care of. After the fitting it can take a couple visits to get everything perfect. Hope you all feel better soon!__________________________________________________

Christie, Wow thank you so much for all the info!! The red spots have faded quite a bit but once she wakes up from her nap and I put it back on for an hour and then take it off and I still see them then I'll *try* and call there, I have lairingitis (spelling?) right now so I have no voice hardly LOL!! According to ALL the paperwork I got it states it's a STARband cranial remolding orthosis but it does look just like the STARlight bi-valve so I'm really confused. It has a star on the back of her helmet, does that mean anything? I have tons of pics I've taken of Kaitlyns head shape so not all of them are on here plus I think the pics on here are kinda hard to see so if you want I can email some to you so you can see them better, just let me know!! Her orthotist seemed concerned because the back of her head is long and narrow and you usually see that with vaginal deliveries but Kaitlyn was a c-section so we're not sure why her head would be

like that. I have a good picture looking down on her head from the top and you can see how it curves to the left and quite a few others. I can't wait to see the end results, I hope and pray this helmet helps her!! So do you think she has the wrong type of helmet for her head? Like I said it does say it's a STARband, it was by Orthomerica, it looks like the STARlight bi-valve but instead of it being clear it's white, now you have me questioning things. Maybe they made it custom for her head because she has a combo of the plag and scaphy? Gosh I wish I could talk cause I'd call him up and write down all your stuff you said and read it to him. redlocks2003 <clkline@...> wrote: Bobbi,I hope you are able to get in touch with the ortho soon. now?Are you certain that Kaitlyn's helmet is a Starband???? I double-checked their website, and none of their band or helmet products look like your baby's helmet. They do have a bi-valve Starlight, but it's clear plastic, and the two pieces don't come together like Kaitlyn's helmet. Her helmet doesn't look like merely a Starband without the cut-out; it looks really different from the side, too. I may be getting the wrong impression from her photos, but I'm not sure:http://www.orthomerica.com/products/cranial/starband.htmhttp://www.orthomerica.com/products/cranial/starlightband.htmhttp://www.orthomerica.com/products/cranial/starlightbivalve.htmhttp://www.orthomerica.com/products/cranial/starlightcap.htmhttp://www.orthomerica.com/products/cranial/clarren.htmCan you get the ortho to clarify exactly what brand of band and what the name of your baby's band is? You can tell him that you have referenced the Orthomerica website, and her band doesn't resemble any of the 5 bands they provide. If it is one of the Starband products, or a new or modified Starband product, then he can clarify which one. This information can help, because there may be someone here at the group who has used that particular style of helmet, you will know if it is an FDA approved helmet, or if it is the first time this type of helmet has been known to be used in our group - that will be useful info, too.I'm very, very sorry Kaitlyn is having

fit issues... it is not uncommon to hear of several adjustments being needed at the beginning of treatment to get that right, first, initial fit settled, and it sounds like Kaitlyn is in need of an adjustment for sure. To be perfectly candid, I have not seen a helmet that looks like hers before. Also, it is not customary (although I have heard of a few orthos in a few instances) to drill holes into helmets as that can theoretically compromise the structure and corrective qualities of a helmet. In addition, I looked at Kaitlyn's photos of her head shape without the helmet, and think I can see some scapho qualities combined with plagio characteristics - scapho is a long and narrow head shape that can be common in preemies. http://www.cranialtech.com/medicalinfo/assessment/scaphocephaly.pdfhttp://www.cranialtech.com/medicalinfo/assessment/plagiocephaly.pdfThe scapho head shape is the rarest of the head shape issues. Not all helmets/bands are FDA approved to treat scaphocephaly, so you are entitled to know specifically what type of helmet Kaitlyn's ortho is using. Because it is so rare, very few orthos have experience in treating scapho. Has her ortho used this type of band before? How many scapho babies has her ortho treated before? If you don't yet have the answers to these questions yet, you may want to ask them next time you communicate with him. Please keep us posted, and let us know what the ortho says!Christie (Mom to Repo'd Remy)> Bobbi,> Poor thing! Bobbi

Was Kaitlyn a breech baby. Georgia was breech and initially had a long narrow head that stuck out in back to make a "shelf." She still had some of that head shape when we saw our cranial facial surgeon for the first time around 4 months of age. He said that he is seeing more of that shape lately and it is due to breech position.

To be honest I have no idea if Kaitlyn was breech or not, they didn't say to me that she was. She was a c-section. I had MANY ultrasounds and they didn't say anything like she was breech. Out of curiousity I should call up my ob/gyns office and just ask if it says anything in his delivery report, they should be able to tell me that right? of her in it *sad*!!! Her orthotist seemed concerned because the back of her head is long and narrow and you usually see that with vaginal deliveries but Kaitlyn was a

c-section so we're not sure why her head would be like that. I double-checked their website, and none of their band or helmet products look like your baby's helmet. They do have a bi-valve Starlight, but it's clear plastic, and the two pieces don't come together like Kaitlyn's helmet. Her helmet doesn't look like merely a Starband without the cut-out; it looks really different from the side, too. You can tell him that you have referenced the Orthomerica website, and her band doesn't resemble any of the 5 bands they provide. If it is one of the Starband products, or a new or modified Starband product, then he can clarify which one. This information can help, because there may be someone here at the group who has used that particular style of helmet, you will know if it is an FDA approved helmet, or if it is the first

I'll be honest Christie, going into all this and from the websites I checked all the helmets looked the same so I really didn't know there were so many!! I agree it does look like that one just in white. All the paperwork says it's a STARband but if anyone elses asks I'm gonna tell them it's the STARlight bi-valve and when I see the orthotist next Thursday I'll be sure and ask him if that is what it is. He told me he had to go with that "style" because of the way her head is in the back he felt it would be easier to get on and off of her with this "style". I'm glad to know it is FDA approved to help both her tort and plag. Bobbi :)redlocks2003 <clkline@...> wrote: Bobbi,Sorry for the confusion over what band it was - you don't need that piled on, on top of red spots concerns, my

apologies! I do think it is a Starlight bi-valve - they may have an option as to whether it's opaque or clear plastic. I've only seen the clear ones, but that certainly doesn't mean the opaque white one isn't an option, too! It makes sense that if the ortho is trying to correct some scapho, the Starlight is the Orthomerica product that is FDA approved for scapho correction. Christie> > Bobbi,> > Poor thing! Yes, they would be able to tell by ultrasound whether she was breech or not. Georgia was a scheduled c-section because of breech position

Nothing was ever said to me about her possibly being breech, now you have me really curious because so far there is no explanation as to why Kaitlyn has the tort and plag so maybe she was breech??!! Kaitlyn was an automatic scheduled c-section because I had a c-section with my oldest daughter and since this hospital is a smaller hospital they don't do VBACs. Gosh I wish I could talk cause I'd call him up and write down all your stuff you said and read it to him. redlocks2003 <clkline@...> wrote: Bobbi,I hope you are able to get in touch with the ortho soon. Are you leaving the helmet off for now?Are you certain that Kaitlyn's helmet is a Starband???? I double-checked their website, and none of their band or helmet products look like your baby's helmet. They do have a bi-valve Starlight, but it's clear plastic, and the two pieces don't come together like Kaitlyn's helmet. Her helmet doesn't look

like merely a Starband without the cut-out; it looks really different from the side, too. You

can tell him that you have referenced the Orthomerica website, and her band doesn't resemble any of the 5 bands they provide. If it is one of the Starband products, or a new or modified Starband product, then he can clarify which one. This information can help, because there may be someone here at the group who has used that particular style of helmet, you will know if it is an FDA approved helmet, or if it is the first time this type of helmet has been known to be used in our group - that will be useful info, too.I'm very, very sorry Kaitlyn is having fit issues... it is not uncommon to hear of several adjustments being needed at the beginning of treatment to get that right, first, initial fit settled, and it sounds like Kaitlyn is in need of an adjustment for sure. To be perfectly candid, I have not seen a helmet that looks like hers before. Also, it is not customary (although I have heard of a

few orthos in a few instances) to drill holes into helmets as that can theoretically compromise the structure and corrective qualities of a helmet. Because it is so rare, very few

orthos have experience in treating scapho. Bobbi

She still had some of that head shape when we saw our cranial facial surgeon for the first time around 4 months of age. He said that he is seeing more of that shape lately and it is due to breech position. According to ALL

the paperwork I got it states it's a STARband cranial remolding orthosis but it does look just like the STARlight bi-valve so I'm really confused. It has a star on the back of her helmet, does that mean anything? I have tons of pics I've taken of Kaitlyns head shape so not all of them are on here plus I think the pics on here are kinda hard to see so if you want I can email some to you so you can see them better, just let me know!! Her orthotist seemed concerned because the back of her head is long and narrow and you usually see that with vaginal deliveries but Kaitlyn was a c-section so we're not sure why her head would be like that. I have a good picture looking down on her head from the top and you can see how it curves to the left and quite a few others. I can't wait to see the end results, I hope and pray this helmet helps her!! So do you think she has the wrong type of helmet for her head? Like I said it does say it's a STARband, it

was by Orthomerica, it looks like the STARlight bi-valve but instead of it being clear it's white, now you have me questioning things.
