Guest guest
Hi April, We just had casting on Monday for my 7 1/2 month old son at Cranial Tech in NJ. He has moderate to severe positional plagiocephaly, with forehead bossing, uneven ears and a slightly bigger cheek. He's a really happy baby who only cries if he is hungry or tired, however, I knew there was going to be a problem because he hates to have anything on his face. He struggles and wiggles if I pull his t-shirt over his head or try to wash his face after a meal. Luckily his casting appt was early on Monday morning, so with the craziness of the weekend, I really didn't have any time to think about the casting. Well, the second the clinician put the stocking over his head, he started to cry. The 10 minutes went by very quick as my husband and I tried everything in our reportoire to try and make him stop crying. We sang to him, tried giving him a bottle, his pacifier, his toy, etc. The second the clinician removed the mold from his head, he stopped crying - so the crying was only out of frustration of having the stocking on his face. Then he had the absolute best time taking a bath in their sink. We go back next week to have the band fitted. I tend to worry a lot about things that I have no control over before they even happen. I'm glad I didn't worry too much about the casting because it really wasn't a big deal. The end result is a lot more important. Good Luck, a - mom to Drew, 7 1/2 months, being fitted for DOCband on 12/23 -----Original Message-----From: Plagiocephaly [mailto:Plagiocephaly ]On Behalf Of ssuharSent: Friday, December 16, 2005 12:06 PMPlagiocephaly Subject: Bella goes for casting next week Hello Everyone,Just wanted to say that I used the posts on this group to help makethe decision between the helmet and DOC Band. We have chosen the DOCBand - like everyone else, I'm hoping we made the right decision. Wewere worried insurance wouldn't pay - but to our surprise they willpay 100% because there are no in-network providers in our area!!! I'm a bit nervous about how this will all go - appts. band andphysical therapy each week and working full-time, but us moms do whatwe need to do, eh? Bella (6 months) is in the infants and toddlersprogram, sees a physical therapist and is starting the band. She ispretty severe - was 2 mo. premature and spent time in the neonatalintensive care unit. I've tried to stop kicking myself for notnoticing her head before it was so bad - the guilt is horrible, butthe hospital didn't tell me about repositioning, I just thought shewas comfortable that way, she was that way in the hosp. because of allof the chords that were in her and got used to it.Question - what is it like going through the casting process - how didyou prepare yourselves emotionally for the day and then what was itlike afterwards? It would just be nice to hear from another mom whatto expect. We're going to Cranial Tech - they seem really great - butI'm still nervous, Bella's been through so much already...Advice?Wisdom? Please?!Thanks in advance, I look forward to going through this process withyou. Will post pictures after we get the band - I'm already thinkingabout decorating ideas. One good thing - she can't wear bows in herhair yet, so this will give me something pretty to do for her!Sincerely,April mom to Isabella (6 months) DOC casting 12/21 - will beginwearing band 01/04/06. polis, land
