Guest guest
Hello everyone! I am Kim and my daughter is Trinity. She is just 2 1/2 months old and it looks like she will need a band. I also have a 3 year old son Trey. I am here to learn about everything with these bands and talk to people who can relate. We are in Georgia right now, and moving to England in June! I also found out last night that our insurance, Tricare (Air Force) will no pay for these bands, and we dont have the financial means ourselves to pay for it. If you have any experience with appealing to Tricare or getting help from outside agencies please contact me (kimmiaf1@...) I will fight until my daughter gets the help she needs! Thanks everyone! Guest guest
Hi, I am under Tricare through the military too,Beale AFB But they gave me the run around and it took them 3 months to finally figure out what we wanted for our twins and then tell us they do not cover the helmets. I put out a notice in our base paper to find out if anyone else on base has went through this. I got a message on my machine but of course they forgot to leave there number. I tried what they did by going to CA Chirlderns Services which had covered there childs helmet but of course with my luck they denied too. Right now by boys are almost one and should have been banded 3-4 months ago. So we decided to go to the Air Force Aid for help. Air Force Aid is a no- interest loan that you should be able to get through your Family Support Center or you can talk to your first sergant. You will need all information on the helmet plus the cost from your facility in writing. I also took a letter from my ped. explaining why the helmet is needed. I took all of this to the Air Force Aid rep and he filed it and the next day I got a call saying we were approved for a loan. Your best bet is to put an ad in your base paper and ask around to see what other parents have done on your base before going to Air Force Aid. I think the more deniel letters you have the better chance/quicker you will qualify. Good luck and let me know if there is anything I can do. Guest guest
Hi. My daugher Grace is 4 months old and had her 4 month old appt last week. We are in the Army and the ped. dr. said her head was flat (brachy) and to have her sleep on her side and keep her off her back as much as possible. She told me flat out that it is written in stone that Tricare will not pay for the helmet/bands. But, will they give you a referral to see a specialists to see how severe a case you have? I don't think my daughter is too bad, but i also don't want to wait any longer and waste time. Does anyone have any info. about that? Thank you. --- In Plagiocephaly , " kimmiaf1 " <KimmiAF1@a...> wrote: > > Hello everyone! I am Kim and my daughter is Trinity. She is just 2 > 1/2 months old and it looks like she will need a band. Guest guest
Hi , We got a referral from our Ped to see a plastic surgeon. After we got the band tricare authorized additional visits to the plastic surgeon. The plastic surgeon was the one who referred me for the doc band. Funny enought that they ok'ed the visits to the plastic surgeon who was following up on our progress in the band but won't pay for the band. Also Cranial Tech will do free evaluations. I actually wentto 3 evals before i got up the guts to say yes we would do it. I actually spoke to the dr that rejected the band in the first place and he said that if youy can show that it wasn't for cosmetic reasons then they would approve it. Like i said my appeal is in Colorado in the appeals unit. I am waiting to hear. Good luck with everything. Guest guest
Hi all... how long does 1 appeal with Tricare usually take? This just seems like such a long process that once you finally win after a ton of appeals that it would be too late to mold the head back??? Guest guest
Hi, That's why a lot of parents opt to pay out of pocket while appealing. They don't want to lose out on precious correction time. They hope in the end they get reimbursed. > > Hi all... how long does 1 appeal with Tricare usually take? Guest guest
Kim, I see that you have gotten some great advice already, but I wanted to just say Hello and Welcome! Thankfully your daughter is still so young that you have a little time to fight and come up with the money needed. I wish you all the luck in the world with everything. In the meantime are you doing repositioning? CAROLG --- In Plagiocephaly , " kimmiaf1 " <KimmiAF1@a...> wrote: > > Hello everyone! I am Kim and my daughter is Trinity. Guest guest
Hey I am having to deal with tri-care also (navy), have you had any success? I know as navy we had Navy relief maybe army has a version of that? We ended up getting help from our families and then taking out a loan while we fight tri-care...dont wait though fight tri care after you get the helmet- we made that mistake and now our daughter is 7 months old when we could have done it at 4 or five. Best of luck!!! > > > > Hello everyone! I am Kim and my daughter is Trinity. She is just > 2 > > 1/2 months old and it looks like she will need a band. I also have > a 3 > > year old son Trey.
