Re: Head Shakes post (break from) band?

Hello. I just wanted to write to you and let you know that did

this too. I can't remember if it was while she was still in her band

or after she had graduated. I actually asked her PT about it because

I didn't know if it could be tort related or if something was wrong.

But, her PT said that she thought it was fine and just " one of those

things that babies do because they can " ... kinda like a little quirky

thing. Anwyay... did it just for maybe 2 weeks off and on and

then it stopped. I believe that others have posted about their

babies doing this too. I'd say if it continues past about 2 weeks or

becomes more frequent, then talk to a Dr in case it could be

something else. He could also be doing it because of how his head

feels without the band, since he was used to wearing the band all the

time.

Our son, during a break from the band, rotated his head back and

forth quickly (like if you were looking over each shoulder). Not

sure if that is what you mean. . .he is just 6 months now, been DOC

banded for 5.5 weeks. We assumed he was doing it because he isn't

used to feeling his head on a bed anymore. Anyway, it is great for

his tort, so we were hoping he would keep doing it, but he stopped

pretty quickly. They are quirky!

We have noticed the exact same movement you described with our 10

month old daughter. She seems to do this when she has her band off

and her head is touching the floor or mattress. I wouldn't worry as

I think it is just a weird sensation as opposed to wearing the band

all the time.

My son would do this with his second band (wore from 7

months to 10 months). He would rub it against the back

of the highchair a lot. I equated it with scratching

his head and feeling stuff against his head other than

the helmet. It stopped after he graduated.

This is pretty normal for them between bands or when first out for good. It is just that they are used to sleeping in a band and now it's not there. I understand your radar being up and if you are concerned about this because of other small oddities in behavoir or routine, keep an eye on it. You can read Dominick's website to see some of the red flags we had for what has led to some nuerological difficulties. Dominick has just recently been diagnosed with ASD(autism spectrum disorder) so my parent instincts were right from the beginning.
