Hi ,

My son's DOCband treatment (band, casting, adjustments included, etc.) totals at $3,000. (Yes, OUCH!) My insurance also has an "exclusion" for orthotics (this includes cranial bands) so we were completely denied any coverage. :(

Good luck to you - hope your insurance picks some of it up for you regardless of the cost because it is alot! However, completely worth every penny - we would never let the cost stand in the way of treating our son - that's what credit cards are for, I suppose!!! :)

Best,

Mommy to Wes in Dallas - 5mo old in DOCband for 1 1/2 weeks

Ours was like $1500 for everything that includes the helmet, all adjustments and all rescans and visits and our insurance company is paying 100% of it. We are located in Michigan in case you wanna know. $1200 here in Kentuckiana (I’m from

Kentucky but we travel right across the river to Indiana). Our insurance will

not cover it, but we have a state program call Commission for Children with

Special Health Care Needs. They are paying for the entire thing!

Bobbi,

That is incredible that insurance is picking up the cost. What

insurance? Fantastic!!! How is Kaitlyn doing? The bivalve is not

so bad, but ours sure smells. She has been soo sweaty!! Have they

shaved out quite a bit of your helmet, or has Kaitlyn just grown

into it? Sophie's seemed a bit big when we got it. Glad to hear

that you are shooting for early April, right?

It will be fun to see pictures of her beautiful head!!

We got my son's helmet at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.

It is $1333 for the helmet. However, each visit to the hospital costs

us about $400 (and we'll be at the hospital for a total of 6

appointments/fittings). I'm still not sure if our insurance is paying

for the visits-I'm praying they will-otherwise this will cost us

around $4,000! Totally nuts but as parents we are trying to do the

best for our son.

Our cost was about $1800 I think from Cranial Tech in Touluca Lake in

CA which included all visits and even a post visit. Our insurance

covered within the parameters of our insurance - durable medical

equipment cap and 80/20 policy.

If we get a STARband it will cost us $2,800 for everything. Fortunately our insurance will pay 80% of that.

Ours was $3000.00 for helmet and all adjustments. Our insurance denied us at first. I made an appeal and got them to pay for half. That was better than nothing at all. I live in Minnesota and my son's helmet would cost us $2000 which is covered all but $800. That includes band and all scans and visits. No other charges.

Our son's 1st DOC Band was $2500 which includes

everything. His 2nd band was also $2500. My Cigna

insurance only pays $1000 maximum per year for

" External Prosthetic Appliances " , so we paid $4000

total out of pocket. I've been told my employer

should reimburse me $2000 under their benefits plan,

but I haven't seen it yet.
