Guest guest
My son Jordan just got his DOC helmet. I am having two issues. He is sweating so much that water is dripping down his neck. They say that his body will adjust the temperature but when. The smell coming off that is gross. I wipe down his head and the inside of the band every 4 hours and clean it with alcohol at bathtime. They said not to put powder in it. I guess I should trust their recommendation. Any thing else to help. He screams when he has to nap or sleep with it. they said he will get use to it but any other ideas. someone said a pillow under his shoulders will help. thanks mimi

Guest guest
Hi Mimi, Welcome to the group! Unfortunately your son is going to sweat until his body temp adjusts to his band. What you can do to help is every hour or so take his band off and quickly wipe down his head and the inside of his band with a towel. As for the smell you could try using 99% rubbing alcohol. If your pharmacy doesn't carry it you purchase it here: http://www.first-aid-product.com/industrial/isopropyl-alcohol.htm Scroll down to the second item, it's under the 70% rubbing alcohol. Scrub the inside with a tooth brush, and let it dry under a fan. You can also buy a really nice smelling baby shampoo, L'Oreal has some really great smelling ones. Lather his head up at the beginning of his bath, let it sit on his head until he's ready to get out and then rinse it out. Some babies do have a hard time sleeping in their bands. It just takes some time to adjust. Hopefully your son will get use to it quick. Does he have plagio or is he more flat across the back? Keep us posted on his progress. --- In Plagiocephaly , " misquaredfbb " <misquared@...> wrote: > > My son Jordan just got his DOC helmet. I am having two issues. Guest guest
Hi Mimi, My son, Jake, had the same problem. He sweated so much I had to take the band off every hour and a half and wipe them both down. It has been a week and already I see improvement with his body temperature. I also had to alter my thoughts on dressing him- I am used to bundling him up in the winter but now no more feetie pajamas and extra layers. Keep him in bare feet overnight. Dress him lightly - my OT said when I am cold, he is probably fine. Good luck - I am sure it will get better. Jake - 13 months - DOC banded on 3/10/06 --- In Plagiocephaly , " misquaredfbb " <misquared@...> wrote: > > My son Jordan just got his DOC helmet. I am having two issues. Guest guest
Mimi: They do adjust to the temp of the helmet eventually. My son Jack too about a week with his first helmet and a bit longer with the second (but that was during the summer.) I would keep wiping it out every four hours. When you clean it out with alcohol try drying it in the sunshine. Seems to make a difference -- don't know why but it does. We also used shampoo with a scent. Sorry I don't have any suggestions for sleeping with it -- didn't have those issues. Jack - DOCGrad --- misquaredfbb <misquared@...> wrote: > My son Jordan just got his DOC helmet.
