We didn't do any painting on it. I went to 's and purchased a

wide variety of boy stickers. I'm not sure exactly how to explain the

ones that work best. They were totally " bendable " and would conform to

the helmet. The ones that didn't stay on long at all were more of a

paper type sticker and then ones that didn't bend. The daycare

providers always look forward to what sayings are going to be on.

Your idea for the t-shirts is adorable. I have seen a web site that

was selling T-shirts with those cute sayings. My favorite was: " No, I

did not have surgery and I am not hyper. I am just reshaping my

head. " We have to have a sense of humor or else we would be

crying!!!!!

My husband did a great job painting our daughter's band. We went to

Micheal's for the paint, varnish and stickers.

We learned from the 1st band not to use large stickers because it's

hard for them to stick flat to round surfaces. Also, if you paint,

don't put the stickers too close to the edges (top of bottom) of the

band.

We touched up the 1st band a number of times because it did a lot of

knicks and bumps. And, depending on where adjustments are made, it can

cause the paint to peel so my husband would re-varnish or touch up

after a CT appt. 2nd band is holding up much better. Of course he took

a full 24 hours to do it, so DD wore band #1 an extra day until proud

papa was satfisfied enough with his work to let the band do its work.

I see a lot of people go with stickers because they're easier to

change. Our design is permanently fixed with all the varnish

applications, but we're very pleased with it. However, had it just

been me, I'd have never had the guts to paint it -- too risky

considering the amount of time she has to wear it combined with my

total lack of artistic talent and general jitters (I drop food off the

spoon before it even gets close to her mouth)! So just do what you

feel comfortable with.

As for the painting thing, we were going to use the Mod Podge over

the paint and stickers, this is supposed to be a sealer, like a

clear glue, so that no stickers or paint chips come off. Has anyone

used the Mod Podge before? I did buy the Mambi stickers and they

are definitely " bendable " so I think they are going to work. I'd

just like to be able to change it but I don't think I can with the

Mod Podge???

Mod Podge will peel off the band when you are ready to change

stickers. Please be careful when painting, paint inside the band is a

problem and insurance will not pay to replace one. Just be sure to

mask off the interior. Some people use a balloon blown up inside and

then tape to mask it off, I have heard this works well.

We haven't painted the band, but use Mod Podge over the stickers.

It keeps them from peeling up at the corners, and keeps the " paper "

stickers from fading. It peels right off when you're ready to

change the stickers.
