Guest guest
, I am so sorry that he reacted that way. I know for me putting the helmet on my daughters head was very difficult and fortunate enough she didn't even realize it was there. She was only 6 months when we put it on her. Being that your son is older he is more aware of what is going on. At this age my daughter won't let me put a bow on her head. Not weraring the helmet is not an option. In your situation I might try to put it on when he is distracted or maybe when he is sleeping. This way when he wakes up he might not notice it. I don't know how likely that is but it's worth a try. A suggestion, we used Gold Bond baby powder on her because all her sweating was causing a rash around her face. It was very difficult to see her so sweating so much and being so uncomfortable. But in the long run she needed it and it was our job to enforce it. I hope this helps. Don't worry in a bit you'll be looking back amazed at how quickly time went. > > My son got his helmet yesterday. Guest guest
Are there any red spots that last longer than 30 min after you take off the band? Does it seem to fit him OK? Some kids do take a little longer to adjust to it, but if he is THAT hysterical, I would almost think that maybe something needs adjusted with the band. Check him for red spots and/or irritation after he wears it for a little while. You may want to go back and see the Orthotist and make sure it is fitting him properly. What kind of band does he have? If the band is fitting him OK, then it may just be that he needs some time to get used to it and realize that it is there to stay (for a while). I know you don't want him to cry, but some kids fuss for the first few days or so until they get more used to wearing it. Hang in there... it will get easier! Guest guest
Well, we put it on again after he napped and he seems to be much better. He fusses, but doesn't cry. DH put his hockey helmet on too and it looks like Mark loves seeing it on him. I hope he doesn't get hysterical again. The helmet that we use is the local one from the Toronto Hospital for Sick Children. They've been using it for a few years with success. The think that bugs me is that it has a chin strap in addition to the starp over the slit on the side. It might be causing Mark additional discomfort. I'll keep you all posted on the weaning progress.ValJen <ronandjenvelez@...> wrote: Are there any red spots that last longer than 30 min after you take off the band? Does it seem to fit him OK? Guest guest
Oh my gosh! That would have shaken me up too! Odd to have that serious of a reaction. My son liked his band, didn't bother him a bit. I do remember one parent last year whose child totally just freaked out and it turned out that he had been given another child's band so, of course, it didn't fit at all. I'm sure that this isn't the case though. Let us know what happens at the next try. Natasha --- In Plagiocephaly , " linia555 " <linia555@y...> wrote: > > My son got his helmet yesterday. Guest guest
Natasha, We tried again after Mark napped, and he has been weraing his helmet for an hour and a half now and so far so good. I'll post a pic of him under Mark P. Keep my fingers crossed. Val P.S. I think his helmet needs to be trimmed at the front though. What do you think?Natasha Gubash <ngubash@...> wrote: Oh my gosh! Guest guest
I know this can be so hard, but you will set yourself up for more trouble if you take that band off when he is crying. They are so smart that even if you only take that band off twice when they are crying they learn that all they have to do is cry and off it comes. Try to distract him and entertain him, but don't take it off until he is calm. Is there a fit problem? Any redness? CAROLG > > My son got his helmet yesterday.
