Guest guest
HI, I posted this same question on another site, but thought perhaps Andy or others could offer some insight or info on the risks (if any) of having too low of a total cholesterol, LDL and triglycerides. My total cholesterol has been very low for at least the past decade (as low as 113). My LDL/HDL ratio has always been very low (HDL is pretty high and LDL is low; making a ratio of .8 on my last round of tests two weeks ago when I applied for Life Insurance). Triglycerides are also low. I recently ran across a site that linked depression and anxiety/agression to low cholesterol. Since these issues have plagued me for years, I'm wondering if there is any reason to do some work on improving my cholesterol numbers? I don't know if there is anything to it, but since taking 1 gram EFAs daily, my cholesterol values have gone up considerably. When tested during my last pregnancy (2000), total cholesterol was 113. In January 2006 it was 123 (non-fasting), and now it tested at 150 (fasting). How much does total cholesterol fluctuate? Do these numbers mean anything? I am off anti-depressants since 10/2004 and feel pretty good at times, but I know I am not feeling 'normal'. I'm thinking I should up the dose of EFAs to 2 grams/day (80% EPA/20% DHA). I am grateful that my cardiac risks are low, but I'd love to live a long AND happy life. What to do? Thanks, Pam p.s. currently, I'm chelating with oral ALA (30 mgs; every 3 hours)
