Guest guest
Grandma, What a wonderful Grandma you are to care this much. Is the baby getting physical therapy for the tort? Try and get your daughter to come on this site and talk with us. You can also give her the Cranial Technologies website www.cranialtech.com to look at. This has assessment charts to help determine how severe the plagio is. CT also does free evaluations if you are near one, maybe you can talk her into just going and see what they say. I have a website for my son that you can direct her too, it has lot's of info and pictures and talks about everything. It is at www.mybandedbaby.typepad.com I hope this helps. Welcome. Guest guest
Hi Grandma! I am so glad to meet you. You are such a great grandma, researching your granddaughter's health like this. I have an idea on how you might be able to start your daughter thinking that maybe her dd's head isn't going to get round by itself. It would be great if you could get your daughter to talk with us here, but she already trusts her dr and if she feels like we are questioning her dr (whom she trusts) she might be even less resistant to hearing what we, and you, have to say. Same thing about going to CT for a free consult. Sure it's free but she has already said she doesn't want a second opinion because she trusts her pede. ANYWAY.....my idea is this, go to our photos section and look at some of the before and after pictures. You might find some photos of a headshape that is like your granddaughter's head. Then you can log in sometime at your dd';s house or while she is at yours and say " hey look at this child. She looks just like granddaughter and look how great her head looks after she wore the band. " You could also print out some stuff from our files section and tell her " look what I found on the internet. " There is also another group you might want to join. It's called OlderPlag and it is for parents of older children with unresolved plagiocephaly. There are pictures there of children whose heads DIDN'T round out on their own that you might show her. There is one stricking picture of a 24 year old boy with some serious facial assymmetry. If you show her the pics from this group and the OlderPlag group it might get her thinking. One other thing that worried me is that she said that if it didn't get better by a year then the pede was going to send her to a surgeon? I hope you mean a neurosurgeon for a plagiocephaly consult. Sometimes neuro's will refer patients to get a band. But if he means he is going to refer your granddaughter for surgery at a year for something that even at that age can still be corrected nonsurgically then you need to do what you can to get your dd to get a new pediatrician. At 1 year of age, children can still get a band and still see good correction. One more thing I want to mention, there are a couple of things your daughter can do, if she is open, to get your granddaughter off her flat spot while she is sleeping. There are safe ways to prop a child on one side in a crib so that graviy will cause their head to roll over to the rounded side and off the flat spot. She can get a fabric tube stuffed very firmly with poly fil or some other kind of stuffing and pin or sew it vertically to the back of her sleeper on the flat side. This will roll her over off the falt spot. She can also get a rolled up receiving blanket and put it in he crib under the crib sheet so it's not a suffocation risk and if the bab sleeps against it, it could also keep her off the flat spot. If she's not sitting upon her own yet, you can also do this sort of thing while she is awake by putting something under her shoulder when she is in her swing or chair or walker. Check out our files section under repositioning headquarters for pictures of what I am talking about. Also, make sure she is getting enough tummy time so that she can spend some time not leaning on her flat spot. I hope some of this has helped. Stay in touch and please let us know how it is going with your daughter and granddaughter. Guest guest
Hi Grandma, Becky again....I was just reading over my post to you and I mean to say that if we all start questioning her dr she might be even MORE resitant to seeking a second opinion, not LESS resistant. Sorry! Becky > > > > > > My granddaughter was diagnosed with torticollis at 3 months, > > because > > > we noticed her flat spot.
