There should definitly be an intermediate involved somewhere in the new scope of

practice, someone to assist the paramedic in the more invasive aspects of

patient care, sometimes there are multiple procedures to be done at once that

may take even experienced paramedics time to do. Also there should be a minimum

amount of time spent at each level before moving to the next level. It gives the

provider time to become proficient at his/her skill level before moving on. Too

many times I have seen paramedics that have gone " straight through " not be

proficient with things as easy as IV access. Not to mention improper treatments

or inadequate care because of lack of experience.
