Hi ,

You're not being paranoid! Regression may be rare but it does

happen. Since you're finding her in a not so good position I'd

check her throught out the night for a few months. I know it stinks to

have to get up in the middle of the night but it might be worth

it. I hope you'll be posting her before and after pictures.

Congratulations Olivia

You're a DOCband Grad!

I hope you'll be sticking around here.

Would love to post her pics but don't have a scanner. I am sticking

around though. Although lately I lurk more than anything since most

of her issues are with her hypotonia.

My soon to be(in July) 5 year old (my plagio baby) has low muscle

tone. She recieves PT twice a week in her special ed preschool. She's

always had low tone. She was treated through EI for about a year. She

was all caught up with her peers. She's now behind them once again.

Is your baby receiving PT? We have a couple of babies here with low

tone. Feel free to post about it!!

Yes, Olivia gets EI PT. She has not progressed as well as we would

like because she freaks out whenever the PT tries to move her. At 8

months old she was about 3 months delayed. She is normally the most

easy going baby I have ever known, ie didn't even flinch with the doc

band, slept through the night the first night and never pulled at it

or even touched it really. But as soon as she sees the PT she starts

screaming. Kind of like a panic attack. We are now heading down the

diagnostic path with no news so far.

Hi Jennie,

Don't be surprised if you never get any news. Most babies/kids with

low tone aren't diagnosed with any ailment. A lot of them have low

tone and it's not known why. I always thought was behind in her

milestones b/c of the tort. While it did have something to do with it,

it's not the only reason. Her low tone has something to do with it

too. I took her to PT 3 times a week for 3 months to treat her tort.

Her tort was fully resolved when we were released from PT. I breathed

a sigh of relief, I thought she'd be on track now. But she wasn't, so

my ped had me contact EI. They came to my house for PT and OT. She

didn't sit up by until she was like 10 months old. She was

significantly delayed. They released her about a year later and again

I breathed a sigh of relief, ok NOW she'll be on track. At her annual

physical last year my ped told me to contact my school district to

have her evaluated. She didn't like how floppy was and she was

concerned about her speech. I had her tested and she now attends a

special education pre school for PT, OT and speech. This coming Sept

she'll be going into a 15:1:1 intergrated, special education

kindergarten class.

Have you thought about trying a different physical therapist? The girl

we had was great, but when she was out sick we had to have a guy.

HATED this guy as soon as he'd touch her she'd freak out. It

was just something about him that she didn't like. Maybe it's the

same with your daughter. Anyway it may be worth trying a new PT, it

might make all the difference to her. How is she when you do exercises

with her?

It's really great that you're so on top of things with her. You're a

good mom.

She has fought me also with the exercises until I backed off and let

her take the lead. When she seems motivated and is trying to reach

for things out of her base of support and comfort zone I try to help

her with her transitions. She also didn't sit well until 9.5

months. I haven't really thought about changing PT's she seems

knowledgeable and tries with Olivia, I will have to keep an eye on

that. Thanks for saying I am a good mom, I don't always feel that

way, it is easy to fall into wondering if her restrictions are my

fault like I didn't force tummy time enough or repo her aggressively

enough. I am sure you all know how that can go.

Thanks for the encouragement.

I totally know how you're feeling!! was my 5th child, I still

feel like I should have had her tort and plagio treated sooner. I

think I became too lax, you know what I mean? She was an NICU baby

and I attributed a lot to that. I guess part of me didn't want to see

that there really was a problem.

I try not to dwell on that too much, I need to use my energy in

positive ways to help .

It does get easier as they get older. I've come to terms with it and

I'm very, very hopeful that will catch up to her peers.

You're doing the best you can, and that's what matters most.

Hello. I just wanted to comment on this... my Daughter didn't have

Brachy, but she started at 14mm cranial vault asymm and graduated at

4mm. 4 mm isn't perfect but she looks great and I'm sure that Olivia

does too. :) As far as the AAP standards for the back to sleep. I

believe they say back to sleep until they can at least roll over both

ways and/or are 1 year old.
