Guest guest
Thank you Elaine, you give me hope! If I find that book I will certainly tell you what I think. Broda 's book is: Hypothyroidism: The Unsuspected Illness Re: questions about hashimotos In a message dated 3/19/02 11:44:46 AM Mountain Standard Time, pam@... writes: > 1) Is remission possible with Hashimotos? Yes, remission is possible. Because HT is an autoimmune thyroid disease, patients can also move from having it to having Graves' disease or Hashitoxicosis. Redhen, on this board, had HT for several years before moving on to GD. There is a book out called How I Reversed my Hashimoto's Thyroiditis or something similar which sounds really interesting. The reviews on Amazon are very positive. While I haven't read it, I plan to watch for it at the library. > > 2) What medications/herbs will block hashimotos antibodies? Anything that helps strengthen, not stimulate, your immune system should help. Immunomodulators like German chamomile, plant sterols and sterolins and Reishi mushrooms are all reported to have benefits. I'd be curious to see what else might be mentioned in the book I mentioned. > > 3) Are there any Hashimotos support sites that are as good as this one? (I > love > you guys) I think you'd like the thyroid boards at about.com. Shomon does a great job researching and discussing HT which she has. > > 4) Can you get TED with Hashimotos? Yes, 20% of all cases of TED occur in people with Hashimoto's. > > 5) Are there any great books on Hashimotos (like Elaine's book on Graves)? Shomon's book on Living Well with Hypothyroidism is very good. It's not as technical as my book but she covers many good points and encourages patients to take charge. I also like Solved: The Riddle of Illness and the book by Broda ...I can't remember the title. I think if you go to Amazon.com and do a search on hypothyroidism, these should all be listed. You can then check your library to see which ones they carry. If you do get the book on reversing HT I'd be curious to hear what you think of it. Keep well, Elaine
