Guest guest
Dear Group, I can't remember if this topic has been discussed before but can asacol, or urso cause thinning hair? My son who takes both says his hair is just falling out. He's been taking these meds for almost 7 years and never had a problem before. I sure hope it's just shampoo, or the water where he lives. He just recently moved. Thanks for any help you can give me. Terry
Guest guest
Hi ; One of the reported side-effects of ursodiol is hair loss: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/medmaster/a699047.html but this does not seem to be a side effect of asacol (mesalamine): http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/uspdi/202734.html So, out of these two medications, ursodiol is the more likely suspect. However, it would be good to talk this over with your son's doctor, as other causes unrelated to these medications might be involved? One possibility is alopecia - an autoimmune mediated disease that affects the hair follicles and causes hair loss. http://www.niams.nih.gov/hi/topics/alopecia/alopecia.htm I hope that this is of some help, and does not cause you alarm. I'm just trying to say that there could be causes other than medications: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/hair-loss/DS00278 " Baldness typically refers to excessive hair loss from your scalp and can be the result of heredity, certain medications or an underlying medical condition. Anyone — men, women and children — can experience hair loss. " Best regards, Dave (father of (21); PSC 07/03; UC 08/03)

Guest guest
Hi guys. I have just logged on after a brief 'holiday' from the PC and am amazed to see this topic. I was diagnosed in Feb this year, and have been taking urso since March and have found I have lost a lot of hair in recent weeks. I had never considered urso to be the cause - just thought it could be stress related. I will definately check it out with my Dr at my next appt on Tuesday. I will let you all know what she says. Guest guest
-Joy Your situation sounds just like my daughter's. She is 15 and this is a big concern to her as she use to have long, thick beautiful hair. She still has the long beautiful hair but it is definitely not as thick. I was looking for some particular names of shampoos that seem to help with this situation. If anyone has had success with a product, please let me know as I know some of the stuff out there is just a lot of hype. Guest guest
Hi I used Boots own thicking shampoo first and that seemed to help it was in a green bottle. I now use worthington results full volume shampoo which is in a red bottle which seems good to. I also about a month ago got a very loose perm in my hair and it is so much thicker now. I hope this helps.
Guest guest
Hi sorry about that. Try any thicking shampoo. What it does is make the hair folicals {sorry can't spell} expand and there for makes your hair look thicker. You don't need to go for the one that costs the most either. Do you have boots over there as that was the first one I had that helped?
Guest guest
-Joy listed Worthington as the product that helped her. I live in KY and can easily purchase it at our local Walgreens. I have looked around a bit but haven't found it in any other stores, I think it costs about 5.99 which makes it worth a try. Hope that helps. mom to Caity(15) AIH/PSC overlap Sponsored LinkMortgage rates near 39yr lows. $420,000 Mortgage for $1,399/mo - Calculate new house payment
