Guest guest
Okay, if you divide the proof of the booze by 2, then you can say that there are 7.5 ounces of alcohol and 2.5 ounces of water in 10 ounces of booze.. Therefore.. you can adjust your recipe by doing the math and reducing your water.. (i.e. the water that you mix your sugar with) So, 100 proof alcohol is 50% water and 50% alcohol..(exactly-sort of..LOL) which is probably going to be too much water.. sigh! Clear as cloudy soap .. eh? Later Ellen Ellen's Essentials has Soapmaking Supplies Essential Oils, Fragrance Oils, Containers (lotion bottles and more) and other soap supplies ... more great supplies are on their way Visit Our Web Page: http://www.ellensessentials.com ---------- To: soapmaking101egroups Subject: Everclear, Date: May 02, 2000 8:44 PM okay, it's been suggested to use SD alcohol......(special denatured)..........i understand you can buy it from some chemical places on line. now i've also been told that some are denatured with nasties, so you need to clarify that. also is it illegal to ship everclear over state lines? 100 proof vodka? you mean 100% alcohol? there are alcohols out there that are close to 200 proof (100% alcohol) and that is close to the category everclear falls into. ......for example, i bought some barardi 151 ~ 151 proof, 75.5% alcohol. (divide the " proof " by 2 for alcohol content). there are vodka's that come in higher percentage alcohol content (stollies, stolly's, however you spell it), but you pay through the nose. the argument AGAINST using grain alcohol is that you do not have a license to sell alcohol from the ATF, hence the addition of " poison " to denature and remove the possibility of ingestion. whew, can i make the easiest things difficult OR WHAT??? > I live in PA & I know that I can't get it here either. I've searched all > over for it to use in afterbathe splashes - but to no avail. You can use > 100% proof vodka - which will work the same. > HTH > Becky~ Check out our homepage at http://www.angelfire.com/mi/Soapmaking101/index.html ----------
