Guest guest
Sunshine, Lots of parents go to orthotics departments. STARbands, Hangers, etc. are done there. Make sure your orthotist has experience working with bands. Ask for references and before and after pictures to prove their expertise. Good luck with their castings (or scanning). Guest guest
Dear Sunshine: Yes, there is a " Big " difference. At an orthopedic department, the orthopedist treat many types of orthopedic structural problem and may have limited experience treating infants and toddlers with cranial orthotic bands or helmets. Consequently, cranial othotic banding/helmets may only be an extention of their business. Whereas for example at Cranial Technologies, Inc., the physical therapist specialize in treating infants and toddlers that have plagiocephaly whether they are deformities from a traumatic birth, multiple births, or post-birthing from positioning related issues. Accordingly At Cranial Technologies,Inc. treating infants and toddlers with cranial orthotic bands, DOC bands, is the " ONLY " thing they do in their business. Wheither you go to one of Cranial Technologies treatment facilities or some other othotic banding/helmet treatment facility, you should always entrust your child with professionals who treat children with plagiocephlay and the physical therapist or orthotist must have extensive specialized physical therapy training to treat infants and toddlers with deformational or positional plagiocephaly conditions. My daughter was treated by Cranial Technologies in Miami as we were very pleased with the dramatic improvements that were made to help correct her severe bradycephaly, moderate plagiocephaly, and severe right-sided torticollis condition. the choice is yours to make. If you have additional question, please let me know. Sincerely, A. Schultz Plagiocephaly Parent Advocate

Guest guest
We banded our youngest Daughter at Hanger Prosthetics and Orthotics. She saw wonderful correction and I'm VERY glad that we chose the Orthotist we did. He was wonderful and 's head looks great! The main difference is that with an Orthotics dept (Hanger, or another local place that does Orthotics) is that they do ALL kinds of Orthotics, they don't just specialize in cranial Orthotics like Cranial Tech. That isn't a bad thing, it's just that they don't focus on just one thing. As long as you find an experienced Orthotist who has done many bands and worked with plagio and has the experience and knowledge, then it doesn't realy matter what facility. Good luck with your decision. Jen (almost 17 mo), tort resolved, Hanger Band Grad (almost 4 years) > > What is the differance between taking my twins to a orthotic department > and a cranial tech? Guest guest
Cranial Tech treats with their own product, the DOCband. Orthotic departments in clinics and hospitals usually use other brands such as Starbands, Hanger bands, and possibly their own local helmets. Where are you looking to go for treatment? Guest guest
We are being sent to UC medical center in Sacramento,CA. If we were not going there we would have to drive to Oakland or Berkley. Which are much further. > > > > What is the differance between taking my twins to a orthotic > department > > and a cranial tech?
