Guest guest
Very well said . Joby Bledsoe wrote: In my opinion, the more lists the merrier. But, a little history is in order. TDH, now TDHS, was told by in-house counsel that it could not serve as a moderator for the EMS list servers. TDHS approached TEMSF many months ago and the TEMSF BOD voted to accept the responsibility and Donn agreed to serve as the moderator for a while. There was a delay because TEMSF did not want to take on the trauma list and it took some time to get that covered. The facts are these: 1. TDHS had to give up moderation of the list. 2. TEMSF was contacted and the BOD considered the request. We sought the opinion of the EMSAT BOD and entertained the idea of EMSAT moderating the list. However, resources at EMSAT are scarce and they could not take on the burden. It was agreed that TEMSF would take on the list and EMSAT would be a co-advisor on the management of the list. TEMSF's mission in the charter is " Professionalism through Education " and moderating this list fits that definition. 3. There were no back-door, smokey-filled room deals. The list would fall and somebody had to take it on. 4. The list can be contentious--but so is life. The EMED-L list for physicians is often more juvenile than this list. Discussions there can be downright nasty and political and the list is fairly worthless. 5. There is a tremendous amount of knowledge and wisdom on this list--attorneys; experienced EMTs, EMT-Is, paramedics; managers; administrators; educators; physicians; dispatchers; medical students; EMS students; and run-of-the-mill EMS providers who make posts that show wisdom way beyond their years.--all of which serves to make Texas EMS better. 6. Many of the ideas I get for articles and such that I write on the national level come from this list. 7. I have been contentious (or a smart-ass as Donn wrote)--but that is sometimes my way. Be it known, though, that I get many private emails (and I mean many) from EMS people in Texas and the world with questions or comments and I personally answer each and every one. If I don't know the answer the seek, I research it or refer it to somebody ,more knowledgeable than I. I care a lot about this professional nd the people in it. It has given me a good quality of life and a regarding profession. That is the deal--eviscerated for all to see. E. Truly free discussion... without the overhead of an AUP controlled by a non-public entity, non-public board and popularity-contest appointed moderators (currently, though, only Donn himself is a moderator of , I checked the web site for the group). You're all welcome to move your subscription. I own the list, but it's not moderated... Mike
