Guest guest
Hi, I have gone through the same thing. I have twins who need to be fitted. My ped called tricare and they told her they would cover it. She put in for a rush approval and then they denied it. They told her they missed understood and they only cover protective helmets.Tricare took 3 months to finally send me a deinel letter. I was told by my base tri-care reps that tri-care will cover the molding and therapy after the helmet is on but not the helmet itself. Which I do not understand. I looked in the who covered what folder on this sight and their were some people covered by tricare with no hassle. I asked the rep about this and she told me that tricare did cover the helmets at one point but stopped b/c they are to exspensive. I am currently trying to get CA Childrens Services to help cover the cost. I put a ad in the base paper to see if anyone else had this problem. One mother called me and told me that CCS would cover it but I have to apply for medical first. The ad also raised some eyebrows in the med group. I got a call from their commander letting me know he was looking into it. Haven't heard from him since. You can try and fight it but it may take a while. Where do you live and what branch of service?? I know for the Air Force you can go through AF Aid and get a no interest loan and then try to fight and get renburst. Or contact local state chidrens services or health department to see if they can help. Let me know if you have any other questions. Also I would like to keep in touch with you. I am looking at getting a group to sign a petition to send up the chain of DOD to let them know that tricare is not covering this. So if you know anyone else in the same situation pass on my email address. Good luck and keep in touch.
