Guest guest
Boosting your Metabolism! Think you have a slow metabolism? Here are a few tips and tricks to keep your calorie-burning engine moving: Don't diet severely -- people on very low calorie diets can slow their metabolisms. Food has a thermic effect -- it produces heat thereby increasing your metabolic rate. It makes sense then to eat nutritious foods as meals and snacks periodically throughout the day to jump start heat production. Exercise- Physical activity has a big effect on caloric expenditure and metabolic rate. Regardless of how much you weigh, incorporating physical activity into your daily routine can help you burn more calories. There are two reasons for this. First, you not only burn calories while you exercise but studies have indicated that you may burn calories for an extended period after exercise depending on the intensity and time. Also exercise can change your body composition (increasing muscle mass and decreasing body fat). Move more- In addition to formal exercise sessions, you can speed up your metabolism by being more active throughout the day. Walking the stairs rather than riding the escalator, parking further away from your destination, getting up from your desk frequently to run errands or limiting the time that you sit or lay in front of the television can increase your totally caloric expenditure.
