Guest guest
Jen, To be honest I am not sure what to make of the numbers you have. Maybe a Starband mom can help out with this. Are you sure the measurement is in CM, not MM? Maybe he means she is 1mm off standard deviation which would definitely be mild, that would be my best guess, but wait for someone else to jump in here. Not much help, sorry. CAROLG > > Hi All, > > Quick question about measurements. Guest guest
Looking at the sketch of her head, it just shows 13. on her left front, 14.5 on her right front. They simply told me off by 1cm. This is for the Danmar U of M Helmet. Thanks! Jen > > Jen, > To be honest I am not sure what to make of the numbers you have. Guest guest
My son is moderate....8, 6, and 3 (I don't remember what each # went to). It was very noticeable to me and not necessarily numbers. If you still aren't happy with her head then it is probably worth banding since she is 6 months old. However, it sounds like she is improving but I still don't know if she would improve enough to have a symettrical head (measurements 1-3 mm).mommylund <mommylund@...> wrote: Could any please share with me what measurements of assemmtry are considered mild, moderate and severe for positional plagio. We had our daughter measured again today to decide whether or not to band with CT. She is improving with positioning, but she is six months now so we are trying to make a decision. She has 12mm of cranial vault assemmetry, but has improved 4mm in the last 3 weeks. It is a tough decision. Thanks, Missy We won't tell. Guest guest
Hello. I was wondering where you had taken these classifications came from. I was told by our clinician that my son was moderate. He is 22mm Oblique at 30 deg (US1 and US2) I noted this measurement on another posting and someone commented that he was mild (i.e. why would I want to use a band or helmet - EEEHHH) and now I read that 15+ mm is severe. I just wanted to know where your info came from so I can sort this all out in my head and compare references. Thanks in advance. Guest guest
Leanne, Is your son's head noticeable? Are you happy with his head shape? A few reasons to consider banding is the unknown (ie. medical issues from having an assymettrical head...TMJ, heaches, etc.). My son's highest measurement was 8mm asymetry and i was told this was moderate. His head was very noticeable to me. I didn't want him to be made fun of in future years for something that I could of corrected. I also didn't want to risk the medical issues that could (not necessarily though) result from doing nothing. The band has no negative affects at least from what I've read and heard. Also, the band does not hurt a baby at all. My son doesn't mind his band at all. He has had it for 3 1/2 weeks now and I have seen huge improvement in his head shape. He sleeps great at night still. The first few nights we needed to figure out how to keep him just right (ie. not too hot or too cold) but other than that it has been pretty smooth sailing. It is only for a short time (yes, I am ready for my son to be done but there is still correction to be made and it is only for another 2 months at the most). I wouldn't necessarily use the numbers as your guide for banding or not....22mm sounds moderate to severe but I don't know how the numbers work. If you aren't happy with his head shape, I would definitely consider banding. Good luck. 8 1/2 month old son, DOC band AZ vlwoodson <vlwoodson@...> wrote: Hello. Guest guest
Did you get your results from a STARscanner report? If our Files section there is an explanation of the STARscanner results - http://f1.grp.fs.com/v1/8L_rRREJMiKH8EjINZO-2cuRqTg-03lckRGihPpnAH0KitG BKfO5N_MIS7vbIGCGeJkFII12pkR1iZLQVuU/STARscanner%20Reports/STARscan%20explan ation.doc I was given a similar explanation of these measurements by our ortho. The Plagio UK site also has similar explanations (scroll all the way to the bottom of the page) - http://groups.msn.com/PlagioUK/introduction.msnw Molly Measurements > > > Could any please share with me what measurements of assemmtry are > considered mild, moderate and severe for positional plagio. Guest guest
Hi, I don't know where these numbers are from, but they seem to agree with what I've heard from our doc and ortho, as well as most of the posts I've read here. However it is not really a hard and fast standard. some docs say things like " 3 on a scale of 10 " , rather than relying on measurements. also if there is ear or facial asymmetry, some will consider it more severe than if it is just the head that is misshapen. Our doc (cranial facial plastic surgeon) recommends banding at 10mm of asymmetry or 90% for brachycephaly. My daughter had severe brachy. -christine mom to sydney/ 14 mo/ starband grad 10-06 > > > > Here is some information regarding measurements. > > > > • Cephalic Ratio = Cranial Breadth / Cranial Length.
