Guest guest
Hi Tomoko and Sherry, I am curious, too, about E/I paying for the helmets. We are in the process of getting signed up with them. I’m hoping they will do some PT with Sophie during her helmet therapy. Please let me know the basics, as we are new to E/I. Actually, ours is called the Infant Toddler program. Is that the same thing? Thanks! Chase is reaching a month soon - this upcoming week - Tuesday. This group is great you're right. I could not have survived without it. I wrote you an email about the EI as I have many questions about the helmet reimbursement and PT and OT. Lots of troubles. I haven't been lucky with it yet but it's getting better. Guest guest
Wow, thanks, Sherry. Great information. We have not had our evaluation yet, as we are just getting signed up. It does, however, sound very similar with the under 3 years old meeting developmental milestones of various types. I believe ours if free, too. Yippee!! Since it is a government program, I’m sure they are back logged and under staffed. Time will tell, but of course, sooner is better!!! I’m not sure if Sophie has tort or not. She definitely prefers the left side, but can look to the right. Sometimes she “cheats” to look way right and arches her back. We’ll have to see what they say. And, I am DEFINITELY going to ask about reimbursement from E/I as we have United Healthcare. I read their policy and it sounds like we will be denied. But, we’ll give it our best shot! God has just been so faithful in all of this. He certainly put the pieces together for her to get treatment. And I’m so thankful for a close orthotist, supportive family and friends, and this GREAT group. It is so nice to not be alone in this!!! Thanks again! Every state has a different name it seems. In NY it's called early intervention and by law the state/city is required to provide services that a child under 3 years of age needs so that the child does not fall behind, basically, with milestones of if there is any delays help them catch up. I'm not sure if your baby has torticollis. If so it generally requires PT or OT to resolve it and early intervention programs would definitely help out with that. The good thing is in NY it is free. I think some other states too free or low cost. Just be sure you get started right away as it's slow to start up to 2 months in most places. Also when they do the evaluation make sure you point out every little problem Sophia has so that she'll be sure to get as many services possible. I've learned the hard way that you kind of have to fight for things. In NY we have a service coordinator from an agency and an agency for services (therapy etc.) these may not necessiarly be the same agency. I have had trouble finding a good service coordinator (the person who is supposed to handle everything for you, all the leg work and answer any questions). So if you're not happy change right away because all changes take time. But you can change the therapists and service coordinators and agencies. I'd suggest if you have any troubles change! I learned that the hard way too. And feel free to ask to speak to supervisors if someone is not being efficent. A service coordinator here in NY told me someone reported her to Bloomberg (our Mayor) ha ha. So you do have alot of rights as the parent of a child with needs. Regrading the payment/reimbursement for the helmet/band I was told when I started with early intervention that they may possibly pay for it but I'm in the very beginning stages of doing that. I lost 6 weeks waiting for insurance apporval and started to pay myself because we were losing too much time. So I'm doing an appeal and trying early intervention. But I think it is a possibility they will pay ask your service coordinator right away about it. In the meantime you can get an invoice for the helmet so you'll have it ready to submit. There are alot of services available it's just a matter of getting good people and everything your baby deserves. Good luck! Guest guest
What is EI I am from Oklahoma and my son is in his second helmet. We have sent the claim forms into BCBS of OK and was denied. We have not started the appeals yet, but I was wondering if we might could look into EI in this area. Regardless, my sons helmets were the best decisions we have ever made even if we don't get reimbursed for a penny. It has changed his life and we will ever be greatful to Cranial Tech for what they have done for him.
