Guest guest
Check with your surgeon as far as the progression. As Lou says it's going to depend a lot whether you're wired or banded. My surgeon bands with a splint and doesn't wire, and he lets you take your bands & splint out to eat. I was on " clear liquids " (broth, water, juice) until I got out of the hospital and then " full liquids " thereafter. I never drank through a syringe; I was drinking through a straw or a cup in the hospital and then eating from spoons drinking from cups thereafter. Your mileage may vary a lot but your surgeon is the one who can tell you what to expect. I put extra protein powder in everything (I like Genisoy) and drank lots of protein shakes, and took L-glutamine supplements too, and I think all that made the difference. I only lost 5 lbs over the course of that first week & gained them right back again by the end of the 2nd week. I totally agree with Lou about blending whatever you want (be creative!) and making sure you eat. Regarding golf, again check with your surgeon. My husband is no surgeon but he does golf and he says that if you clench your teeth or contort your face at all when you swing, it might not be a good idea for at least the first 2 months. (my surgeon told me to avoid heavy weightlifting or doing Spinning classes because of the potential for facial contortions and jaw-clenching) Hope that helps, Rhonda (upper, lower, genio, bone graft 5/27) > > Hi. Guest guest
Yeah, that's what I said about my Spinning classes, but it does go by fast, especially after the first week or two. In the meantime, there's always the Golf channel! :-) Rhonda > > > Hi.
