Guest guest
My insurance company really got me going yesterday. My surgery was back in February, and was done before they replied to a pre-approval request. Well, they paid the $14000 hospital bill and $1700 anesthesiologist bills immediately, but denied the surgeon's fees of $12400. I appealed the surgeon's bill, and yesterday got a denial plus a bill from my anesthesiologist with a " correction " showing a balance due of $1500! Today I called BC/BS and they said they reviewed the charge since my appeal was denied and determined that the anesthesthia was covered " in error " and payment was retracted. I had the rep check on the $14000 hospital payment and it's still intact. So I asked the rep " is there a chance that the hospital payment would also be retracted if I appealed the surgeon's fee again? " And her reply was " yes, that's a choice you have to make " . SOB's!!! So I can risk being on the hook for an additional $14000 if I try to further appeal the $12400 surgeon's fee! Sigh. Time to cut my losses and give up the fight. This is Empire BC/BS for those interested. Big business wins again.... --Neil
