The decision to band can be a very overwhelming process. We have all been there so you are not alone. I can tell you that through all my research over the past year and being a moderator here and helping parents through my Dominck's website My Banded Baby from all over the world that most babies who still have asymmetry at six months old will not fully correct on thier own without intervention. Now intervention can be anything from repositioning to banding. I noticed that you use the words "TAKE A CHANCE" implying to me that you feel there is a risk to the baby with the bands. I can tell you that there has been extensive research and studies ahowing that there is no risk. The bands do not in any way restrict normal growth of the head and the brain. They simply redirect growth to the head. Here is a link to a study to help you with that. Cranial Growth Unrestricted This all had to be proven for them to get FDA approval for the device. On top of this research I can tell you first hand that my son wore three Doc Bands to correct his severe inutero plagiocephaly from 5months old to almost 13 months and his head growth as documented by the pediatrician was normal(actually put him in a more normal cephalic index) and we recieved excellent correction to his head and facial asymmetry. This is a personal decision, but I wanted to be sure you have all your info together. I would recommend doing some kind of intervention. The tort stretches are absolutely necessary to help facial asymmetry and should be kept up until the baby is walking well. We have had many parents here who use the CST, I would post out to ask about anyone who used it without a band to get some feedback. Have you been doing repositioning and if so how is it going? Sorry if you have already given this info. I have been away from the board a bit. Like I said this is ultimately up to you and your husband, do your research, ask questions about everything and decide if his headshape and facial asymmetry never change from what it is now would you be ok with that? We will all be here to support your decision, whatever it may be. Good Luck!
