Popcorn is mostly air, and most of us could eat it all day long.

Most of the " junk " type stuff goes right through - VERY unfair !

You didn't say when you were banded, or what your fills have been.

Eating this much after you are healed, but before you have a fill, is

pretty normal - but still too much.

After a good fill, 1/2 - 1 cup of food is a Bandster portion. The

pouch is only the size of a golfball, and allowing for a bit of

normal stretching, regularly eating more than 1 cup will cause pouch

dilation and lead to possible slippage. Remember to eat the protein

first, then veggies. Avoid rice, pasta, potatoes, and breads - they

are all pretty useless foods, add way too many calories with no

nutrition, and when you have a good fill will usually plug you up.

DRY, air-popped popcoarn is a good source of local fiber. a whole cup

is only 30 calories. It's all the fats and oil that are deadly.

You need a fill! Sandy R

Well let's see. I was banded on June 15th this year. I have had 3

fills and am currently at something like 3.5 cc.

I just get that stuck feeling but then as soon as goes through all

better and can keep eating. I hear ya on the popcorn. I will buy

the healthy pop since the ones I have been eating are full fat and

junk.

Sometimes though when I eat brocolli it hurts so bad and gets stuck

feeling but then ok.

Maybe I need one more small fill to tweak a bit.

Ok, let me " tweak " my suggestions a bit! Sorry i was too lazy to look

up other posts from you to see your banding date.

All the stuff about the popcorn is true with or without a fill - it

will go right thru. If you're a popcorn addict, like i am, get an air-

popper. They're inexpensive. then you can dry-pop your own and eat

about all you want as snacks. 3 cups is like 100 calories, and good

fiber. sometimes we just need the " crunch " factor!

You must have some decent restriction if you're at 3.5. You should

really stop when you feel stuck - not wait and eat more. When you

get " stuck " stop and evaluate what made you get stuck, so you can

change it.

You should eat a max of 15-20 mminutes. And please don't get another

fill until you are having NO trouble with the current fill - no

barfing, pb ing, regukar trouble with amounts or choices. Another

fill before all is welol with THIS one is inviting more serious

trouble.

Broccoli needs to be VERY soft - overcooked, really - for most

people. I do fine with all kinds, though, as LONG as I'm careful to

chew it very well. Sandy R

Yes, I suppose I just need to do some tweaking of my own. I went to

a friends house tonight and ate some chicken and it got stuck like

first bite or two and then I had to run to the bathroom and

barf...then sat down embarrassed and tried to start over eating tiny

bites and it happened again! But then all weekend I ate anything I

wanted just fine including one small peice of pizza with no problem.

The chicken just about killed me tonight. Every time I barf I am so

scared I have done something or something slippage wise is going to

happen in future.

So I guess I do have restriction but I can eat tons of one thing and

then one bite of chicken tonight and no go.

I have started back to walking today so hopefully that will help me

get some weight moving again.

Hi, .. Something I have noticed from my own experience is that when I

start getting my exercise again, my band is tighter than when I am more

sedentary. Maybe that had some bearing on your chicken episodes. Also,

once you barf, you might have extra problems at that same meal. It can go

either way I find, either you are real loose after a barf or your stoma is

irriated and reallyk needs a rest. You might want to pay attention to

whether you are tighter when you are getting good exercvise or not. Just my

experience.

Yes, that's one of the secrets. Once you've barfed you're DONE for

that meal. Once you've barfed don't EVER try eating any more until at

least the next meal time, even if it happened on the first bite. The

band has told you that it is the queen bitch and is ruling your life.

Of course that's the whole point, isn't it?

Naturally, we just don't like being told " no " , especially when it is

about food.

ha! That must be true. Well I am still fairly new at this and

learning all the time. So thank you for all the good advice! I will

heed your warnings and not try to eat again after a barf and I will

watch and see if the exercise is maybe tightening up for some reason

which would be just another good reason to keep exercising!

I guess I just got to thinking too much when I noticed several things

I could eat all day long or would eat and then an hour later be

hungry again and was thinking something wasnt right but perhaps it is

the foods I am eating that arent staying with me.

Indeed. I bet I could eat a pint of ice cream an hour...or at least

every two hours....

Amazingly enough there have been some bandsters who've been doing that

kind of thing and then bitching about how the band doesn't work and

they're not losing weight....

But you're a SmarterBandster, so I know you're not going to be one of

those folks.

Hi ,

I just wanted to mention that I seem to be one who can eat pizza and

maybe grilled cheese without as much trouble as solid protein like

chicken. One of the reasons I started eating more fish is that it

goes down better for me than chicken. I have always eaten more

chicken than any other protein, but after banding have discovered

that it can be very dry. I now almost never eat chicken out because

I don't know if I can get it down. I do have a couple of recipes for

chicken that I cook at home and it comes out tender and moist. But

at a restaurant I will order the fish with a nice sauce.

Now that I have started eating more fish, I actually love it and

usually prefer it, but not at the beginning of this journey. At

lunch, tunafish or pink salmon (from the pouch, not can) mixed with a

little Miracle Whip light is my protein of choice.

Turkey meatballs work great for me. So does pork tenderloin

usually. Even a pork chop is good if it's tender. I can eat filet

mignon, just not much of it. For me, I had to branch out and try

some things besides my old faithful chicken. It just wasn't working

for me. YMMV. But whatever solid protein works best for you, it

will stay with you better than anything soft.

Take care, and best of luck to you,

Betty

Full with a band is totally different than full without a band. It

takes a long time to get used to the difference, and to get all the

" signals " . At least it did for me. And I still struggle with it. I

just remember the words " just because you CAN do it doesn't mean you

SHOULD " . Of course that relates to LOTS of things in life....

  • 1 year later...

She spoke with a pediatrician who she thinks very highly of and he said he was not afan of CT because he feels that in most cases the heads are stillgrowing and once the babies are up and moving, the heads will roundout and the facial asymmetry will get better.I'd love for this pediatrician to go to this website:OlderPlag/His thinking would quickly change I'm sure. It's a group of about 900 members. Either they as an adulthave untreated plaigo/facial asymmetry or their older child does. Most of the babies there have untreatedplagio b/c of pediatricains just like the one you mentioned. Most babies heads DON'T round out on theirown. Most babies facial asymmetry DOESN'T correct onit's own. Check out that web site. Good luck making your decision. Keep us posted.

The head doctor at our old practice was well respected. He was,

however, not very knowledgeable about plagio. He was adamant about not

banding Dane even though he acknowledged the severity. He said he never

recommends banding until at least a year. We all know the younger you

start the better the correction!

Gavin probably will see at least some natural correction, but you don't

know how much that will be. It really sucks that there's only one shot

to fix it. When we were deciding I kept thinking why aren't there " do

overs " for kids?!!

Basically we were being consumed with worry. For us it was worth

banding because it put our mind at ease and they got great correction.

Check out the Older Plagio group recommended. I see kids with it

all the time. The little girl across the street's bike helmet is always

tilting to the right because of her flat spot. She's 5.5 yo. My

nephews (5 and 3) both have brachy. It has softened a little bit over

time, but they still are quite flat. They have high head heigth and

bulging foreheads too. I always wonder what they would have looked like

if they didn't have brachy.

Good luck with your decision :)

Hello. OK... here is my opinion on this for you... you can take it

for what it's worth. :) There is no guarantee that his head (or

asymmetries) will get better over time without a band. The way I

like to look at it is this... if YOU are not happy with how his head

(or face) looks NOW, then I would recommend banding him. You can't

see what the future will hold and if his head or face NEVER improved,

would you regret not banding him? If the answer is yes, then you

should probably get the ball rolling and look into banding him while

you still have that option. At least with the band you can know that

you did what you could for him and his head and facial asymm will

improve.

Good luck with your decision. I know it can be hard. Let us know

what you decide.
