Guest guest
, Hi! I am from Minnesota as well so I was just wondering where you are going. The 2 hours on 2 hours off thing is right but they " start when you feel like it " doesn't sound right. I am kind of new to this too; my daughter has only been in her STARband for a little over 5 weeks. But from what I know or have heard from the group that doesn't sound right to me. Didn't the ortho take any measurments before the casting??? If not I think I would be concerned. 8 months seems like a long time for your son to be in a STARband unless he is severe and then he would have to do a second band because I am assuming he would out grow his first one. I know people here who have DOCbands and who have had to do 2 I believe that they get a second one after the first 4 months. Like I said I am kind of new to this so I really don't know all of the specifics I am just going by what I have learned and heard from this group. I hope maybe I have helped you out and not confused or worried you more. I live in St.Cloud and go to Tandem O & P in Sartell and they are wonderful. Guest guest
Thanks for your replies! Our ortho did take measurements... but he said he forgot the ear ones. I had to ask twice about it before he admitted forgetting to do that specific one and then he only gave me that one. Hines with Park Nicollet right behind Methodist Hosp in Minneapolis. Our PT seemed to think he was " the guy " that did the helmets so he does come recommended. We will see how it goes. He did band his own kid so I guess he can't be that bad. Guest guest
Hi , Welcome to the group. Hmm I'm a bit worried about the casual instructions. From my 2+ years on this board this would be my advice. 1. Take a ton of pictures from all angles to document his progress (the DOC Band before and afters are good examples). 2. Start with 2 hours on 1 hour off. If no red spots then move up to 3 hours on 1 off. If no red go to red spot checks every 4 hours. If you see a red let it fade then put it back on. If the red spot lasts more than 1 hour call your ortho and don't put it back on until they say ok. Watch to see how long it lasts. 3. If he can go 4 hours with red spots that fade in an hour or less then let him sleep in it over night. Since a nap only lasts a couple hours it's fine to go the first day. 4. After 1-2 days of every 4 hour checks (with all red spots fading in less than 1 hour) go to 23 hours. For cleaning use 91% alcohol. Get a washcloth damp and rub hard. Let it dry. Do you know what kind of STARband? They have multiple names for their bands. One of them is a passive design which can be used on younger infants and takes longer to ocrrect. If you post some pics we may be able to help you determine which one it is. na, DOC Grad Feb 04, Tort Resolved Kiersten, DOC Band 1/10/06, Tort www.thefilyaws.com/plagio/plagio.html > > (5.5 months - tort & plagio) got his STARband today! Guest guest
First day of scheduled wearing.. (yesterday we only did an hour after daycare/before bed) and he has a cold! ICK... oh well.. we have done an hour of wearing/one hour off w/nap.. and then almost two hours on/one hour off w/nap. Only one red spot on his cheek that fades within 30 minutes so we are doing well. So far so good. I am AMAZED he doesn't mind it! He is crabby at times, but mostly due to his cold and not the band - oh.. and when Dad got the little foam insert piece (a strip that goes under the velcro between the two halves of the helmet) stuck between his head and the inside of the helmet - twice. The suggestion to take it off the back of the head first has helped a TON. Looking online at orthomerica it is the STARband. Just the plain one... http://orthomerica.com/products/cranial/starband.htm We did take some picts which I will post once I get them out of the camera Still figuring it out... Guest guest
, I hope he feels better soon, poor baby. Glad to hear things are going well so far. It all gets easier as you go along and you and Dad will be pros at taking it off and putting it on,lol. CAROLG > > First day of scheduled wearing..
