Guest guest
I was rediagnosed with small duct PSC about 6 months ago. My blood test labs are now all good, but I've been feeling severely fatigued. I was ready to apply for permanent disability from work. I had my j-pouch surgery in Oct. 2005 with the takedown surgery last January, so I've been recovering from surgery as well. I assumed the fatigue was from the PSC and the surgery. The insomnia started about the time of the j-pouch surgery in Oct. I started taking restoril for the insomnia about 6 or 7 months ago. The nausea started about 2-3 years ago, and I've been on compazine for at least a year now. I switched from Prozac to Wellbutrin within the last year due to grinding of my teeth from the Prozac. I had wanted to try to go off the anti-depressant but my doctor seemed unwilling to do that, and as it happened the last few years have been difficult with my health issues, and dealing with a difficult job, and elderly and ailing parents, including the death of my father. So I've stayed on the anti-depressants. Now with the fatigue being as bad as it's been, I've been very depressed from that. Well, the hepatologist told me on Friday that the fatigue cannot be from the liver, because my liver is doing well now. I'm still in early stage PSC. He suggested that the cause of the fatigue is more likely the combination of Wellbutrin and restoril, which are both very powerful brain regulators/modulators. It turns out when I looked up wellbutrin, restoril and compazine I was very shocked at the use of the drugs and the side effects. I had read about them when I started taking them, but at the time it didn't seem so bad or so scary, and not everyone suffers from the side effects. The doctor told me that I needed to wean myself off these drugs, at least the restoril & wellbutrin, which I just started doing, and I already feel considerably better, despite the insomnia (the insomnia appears to be caused by the wellbutrin). The fatigue has already lessened considerably. I was wondering if others have suffered these side effects from this combination of drugs. In addition I've developed muscle tension in my hands, an almost constant strong bite of my right jaw, drooling, increased sensitivity to light, and leaking of the j-pouch at night. What amazes me is that with all of the doctors I've been seeing, no other doctor brought this up until now. Perhaps I didn't complain as strongly as this time about the fatigue, but I have definitely been complaining about the fatigue, and have been on disability due to it. I pick up my meds at the same pharmacy, and there was no red flag at the pharmacy either. Thanks for any additional comments on this.
