Guest guest
1. Regression is rare, I think that the Cranial Tech's statistic is <1% of the babies treated. Of course, if you child has torticollis as well you would want to treat that and get it under control 2. As long as the band fits well then there shouldn't be any problems. DOC bands have an excellent reputation for fit and if you question anything, Cranial Tech will be responsive. 3. Pale red marks can occur at holding points but again we go back to the fit issue, if it fits well, there shouldn't be skin issues aside from the occasional heat rash. My son never had issues. 4. Taking it on and off does require getting used to be you should be fine after a day or two, it has a velcro strap. Don't worry, you are in good hands!! Guest guest
Sandy, 1.) My son wore his band from 5-8 months too. I was very glad we did it at that age. He had so much asymmetry that if we'd have waited longer he would have required 2 bands. I also feared regression at graduation. By that time he resolved his tort and was sitting on his own. He also starting sleeping on his stomach. The only time he was on the former flat spot was in the car seat so we just limited that. 2.) It is very rare for a child to not adjust to the DOC Band. The band goes through stringent quality control protocols so it's a great fit. The clinicians working with DOC Bands are throughly trained to specifically work with them to ensure successful treatment. Neither of my banded kids would wear hats. Neither of them so much as batted at their bands even on the first day. You'll be amazed at how light it is. Their clothes weigh more! 3.) Both my banded babies have sensitive skin. Just make sure to follow the instructions CT gives you for the first few days. You take the band off frequently to help her adjust to the temperature. I use Aveeno oatmeal pouches. We make a paste with water and put it on the head during a tub. Oatmeal is great for skin! It really helps. Just make sure to rinse it off well. We use this in the tub too when our kids get rashes or eczema. I used it daily with Dane, but only when Cece gets a little heat rash when I dress her too warm. She has gotten heat rash on the back of her neck since she was born. It hasn't been worse since she was banded. 4.)The DOC Band is very easy to get on and off. My son didn't like it when we removed it. He was very happy to put it back on. The velcro is on the flat side. That way the bulging side gets pressure points. Good luck with her fitting. I think you'll be surprised at how easily she'll adjust! Mom to Dane 4 yo (DOC Grad) and Cecelia 11 mo (DOC Band)

Guest guest
Sandy, To answer your questions: 1)Regression is very rare, less than 1% and there are predisposing factors that contribute to most cases. These are being very, very young at graduation, and having unresolved torticollis at graduation. Most babies are moving around and moving in thier sleep enough to not allow for the flattening to reoccur. 2) Most babies adjust quickly to the band. I have noticed the younger the better and faster in most cases. There is a period of adjustment that usually lasts about a week, where the baby will sweat more than normal and may be a touch fussy at times, but they usually do fine after that. Your attitude is a key factor in the baby accepting the band. Babies feed off negative feelings so make sure you understand that you are doing what is best for your baby and this is a good thing. 3) My son wore three Doc bands(very severe) and we actually had very little trouble with red spots or heat rash considering he wore bands through out the entire summer(August in Virginia, yuck). There are many parents here who have babies with sensitive skin and exzema, so you have access to a wonderful help desk at your fingertips. 4)Doc bands are extremely easy to get on and off. They fasten with a velcro closure on the side. Once you do it a couple of times you will be popping the band on and off like a pro. Good Luck and keep us posted. Guest guest
Hi! Congrats on your decision to band - you will not regret it! If you are using Cranial Technologies, they usually have all the bath stuff there - towels, johnsons baby wash, wash cloths, and I think even a duck (don't remember). I had brought everything and regretted lugging it all when I saw they had it. Give them a call to double check. Bring a bottle, a pacifier if you use it, and a favortie toy. YOu don't need much else. If possible, both parents being there will be comforting for the baby , and helpful to the orthotists fitting the cast. You DO have to hold the baby down. It takes like 7 minutes total, and then you get to do a bath. Please email me offline if you want to see our photo album of Lily's casting in September (alinyc1270@...). We are 7 weeks in to treatment - and we started late, at 10 months - and just found out that Lily will be done in 2 weeks - 3 weeks ahead of the original estimate. The progress is amazing. You are so making the right decision. Good luck! ali in NJ > > We are taking the plunge and going for the band. Of course we don't want to band, but if this is something we can fix now while she is still so young then we are going to do it!! Family and friends have been very supportive so far. We are going to keep the neurosurgeon appt. in december but we are going to band asap. Xrays show no cranio and after three opinions it is clear that she has moderate right plagio and according to her measurements some brachy as well. Our ped is going to write the script. Insurance is in network so we are getting casted next week and then getting fitted two weeks later. I have a few questions... > > Any recommendations for casting day other than bottle, paci, toys..? > > Do I bring bath stuff? soap? towels? change of clothes? > > Will measurements be taken at each adjustment? pictures? > > She is 5mos. old today and will be 5.5 at the time of her first fitting... > > I will keep you all posted. > > > > __________________________________________________ >
