Guest guest
Deanna, I saw were Trish told you about this newsgroup (she beat me to it) & just wanted to let you know there is a wealth of information on Listen-Up and you'll really enjoy it here! Pam, Now that I see you live in Omaha - Has your daughter ever attended the summer camp at ISD? Or during the school year? My daughter has gone the past two summers for the week camp. (we also live in Cedar Rapids) She just turned 14 this week, but I have noticed younger girls there the week of her camp. Do you ever use Boys Town Research Hospital? Or have you ever had contact with Iowa Children's Hearing Center? Guest guest
Hi Patty, No, we haven't attended ISD summer camp -- truthfully, I didn't even know they did one. Do you have more information? Demi is nearly 10 years old and thinks teenage girls are about the coolest people alive! So, it would definitely be something we are interested in. We practically live at Boys Town Hospital! I need to pitch a tent over there. Demi has all her audiology services through the hospital and we did all our genetic testing there. Periodically, she'll participate in a research study going on -- they pay her for her time which just thrills her to no end! They also set us up with loaner aids in the beginning - until we saved to buy her first set. We've also had tubes done on another daughter over at the hospital and the baby is getting tubes at Boys Town next Tuesday. I just can't say enough good things about the folks over there... they really care about what they are doing and it shows. Have you heard about the new hearing loss research center that is going up on their campus? They are breaking ground this fall and it sounds like it will be a wonderful, state of the art, research center. Do you ever use Boys Town? Are you ever in Omaha? Would love to meet sometime if you are around. Guest guest
My doc suggested I try using a thyroid substitute that contains Levothyroxine and liothyonine in approximately the same proportions as the T4 and T3 in armour. It's called Thyroid and it's made by Time Cap Labs. Anybody have any experience with this? It's much less expensive than Armour thyroid, but if it's not effective, I'm not interested. Guest guest
Dixie: Just MY perspective. Been taking all types of these drugs for two years now...nearly. Its a generic for Armour..not as potent as Armour. I found it gave me pee urgency. Highly embarassing. Its the junk they cut/bind the pills with. Its the trashiest stuff they can possibly make a pill with if you ask me. Sure...put that stuff in a cold medicine I take for a week or two...but don't put that in something I have LIVE on. Sheesh. Not worth the savings anyway ..if after taking more pills..you EVEN get a savings. Armour is not an expensive drug compared to the synthetic made Synthroid which can run twice the price anyway. I won't touch the generics with a barge pole now. I'm brand name all the way! ~E:) "dixiesmithz@..." wrote: My doc suggested I try using a thyroid substitute that contains Levothyroxine and liothyonine in approximately the same proportions as the T4 and T3 in armour. Guest guest
Dixie, I don't know too much about Thyroid, but my mother who is 93 has been taking that medication for over 20 years now and she seems to be doing great on it. But this one note...she has had her thyroid destroyed. She is 93 years old and doing better than I am. Hope some others can help. Guest guest
: Yeah...I know it sounds kinda harsh. Didn't mean to get all wild on there.. I just had a very VERY VERY bad experience. I thought it was just in my head...until I asked around. I'm still mortified over what happened. I was shocked to find out that others had the same pee urgency problem...but had chalked it up to something else too. One doc wanted to take the TC Armour away from me..saying it was causing me to have a diabetic reaction...even though I don't have diabeties. Good one huh? Of course...I was so delerious at that time...I would have signed a confession to murdering Riley's mother. Isn't it terrible... the cruel head games these docs play? When these other folks made the switch to Armour..the problem resolved just like in my case. IT was a HUGE relief to me. The other thing...for me is that I cut the pills...and the Armour holds together better. The other pills are very powdery and fragile. I think the binders...and coating is just less rigid. So that was another issue for ME. Like you though...I know of many others who don't have that issue...and they love their TIME CAPS. They do work and they are a bit cheaper...no question about that. There are some absolutes in this thryoid thing...and some things that are highly individual. Sometimes just figuring out which is which is kinda tricky. This is one of those things that I think one has to put in the individual column. YES? ~E:) topper2@... wrote: Wow... never heard that review on Time Caps before... Guest guest
Self replenishing fly paper... that's it exactly.. that is just it exactly! Shower and put on fresh clothes.. and I'm peeling the shirt off my sticky back 20 minutes after sitting in my chair! Oh well... Nasals, plugged up.... headaches.... I'm not the person to ask.... My left ear plugged a few years ago.... It was clear all through the summer of '04, I thought I'd licked the problem... the furnace had broken that spring so it didn't run all summer... yeah... I said that.. he runs the furnace in the summer time so that house can't cool down at night either!!! Anyway... it was clear all that summer... like a full three months.. then the got the new part for the furnace and the guys came and got it all put together again on the Thursday or Friday before Labor Day.... it got turned on that Sunday.... and my ear plugged up.... I suspected an allergy to something in the heat ducts.... So I dealt with the plugged ear all through last winter... and I tried to get it cleared up this summer.. but I don't thing we went for more than a week or 10 days at a time all summer without the furnace being turned on and I was still having trouble with it... It was ... July or August that I brought it up here again, and on the Lymph group... wondering if maybe it was a lymph thing... fluid pressure plugging the ear with the smaller ear canal... so I redoubled efforts on MLD of my face... I increased water intake... took more care cleaning out the gunk in the ear. I popped open! It was fantastic! I could hear and everything.... then we got a cold spell, the furnace got turned on and it sealed up tight again! Saturday a week ago Cheryl (Hi Cheryl!!!) went into town and she grabbed me a pack of Psuedophed.. the cheap generic stuff... nasal decongestant... I know how the stuff works... it shrinks mucous membranes leaving more room for gunk to drain and air to come in.... I took one on the first day and I started to drain... took one on the second day... still draining.... and the ear popped open!!! I could hear again!!!! but over night it was pop closed again... I took one pill on the third day... the ear popped open again and I was still draining.... It wasn't gunky ropy stuff, like from a cold or flu.. it was very liquid and clear. I went the next three days without taking anything.... then I took one 'for maintenance' and started draining again.... That night both nostrils and my ear impacted.. can't think of a better word for it... I was miserable all through the next day.... but I'd had crappy sleep that night too... we've been talking about my bad sleep of late... not enough, over tired... yada yada... so here I am today... I've not had a pill since Saturday or Sunday... I'd have to check my notes... my ear is still unplugged... with a little encouragement I can get my nose to drain.... It's still coming out more liquid than thick and still clear.. that leads me to believe that there is no infection or anything clogged up in there.. it would be coming out thicker and opaque, not clear. Oh my.... this is sounding gross.. but geez... if we don't compare notes on this how the heck to we learn? As the furnace kicks in in the early evening, and on the weekends when it's cranked up all day (I'm talking the last couple of weeks) I'm 'heavier' feeling in the head/face and my nose is dry.. nasal passages feel 'smaller' and breathing is harder.... This might have to do with warmer air being dryer.... Now... today... furnace was turned down to 72 this morning... I think a money saving venture.... all I know is that it's a relief to me...... the weather outside stayed in the 50's over night and we had rain. I slept with an open window, rain pattering outside during the night... and I slept like a log for my whopping 5 hour allotment.... I came in here (for those that don't know my layout, to review, I have two rooms in my dad's house... a bedroom for sleeping and storage... and I commandeered his office for mine... all my computer stuff and such is in here.... bedroom is for sleeping, bedxercise and MLD massage... the office is where I live.) and opened the windows... a faint breeze was moving air through..... My nose drained a bit after I had breakfast, hot meal, and then stopped.... breathing as been good today... not clogged anything, including ear.. no headaches..... it's about 63 outside right now.... and the air is moving, gently, pulling out the heat from the puter stuff... so I'd venture to say it's about 75 in here right now.... fine as long as I'm just sitting... I'm rambling... I do that.... darn.... I'm stopping now... I hope I either reached a point or at least triggered some comments on observations.... Guest guest
I think that, in your case, your mucous membranes simply can't take the dry heat or maybe any dry air at all. I know that they say that the old open face heaters aren't safe, but I never had these same problems until I got introduced to blown heat. When using an open faced heater, I used to raise a window slightly to introduce most air, but that is now an economical problem, to boot, and much more so with central heat and air. I do better with "still" heat, and I have terrible sinus problems also. Re: Digest Number 1486 : You should see my pill collection! Guest guest
: Thanks for the input. It seems that its the "blown heat" as you say. I never had these problems when I lived elsewhere...only here with the baseboard heaters. I think I'll have to get our heaters cleaned out...for starters anyway. Until I get over this spell..I'll have to have the house all chilled out. All winter I have a humidifier running with the windows open...when the heat is on. It makes for an interesting weather pattern in my room.-- sorta like tropical storm meets arctic tundra. A weak ago my DO doc banged on my head repeatedly to get the gunk out. It hurt like hell..but the next morning a ton of it rolled out...and the world was a much nicer place. Aaaah:) Now...I'm tempted to go back for some more of that abuse...if this doesn't clear by tommorow anyway. Arrgh. I am gonna see if the PCP doc will cough up some Flonase for me too. ~E:) wrote: I think that, in your case, your mucous membranes simply can't take the dry heat or maybe any dry air at all. Guest guest
That was interesting . I'd assumed the 'bunged up nose' feeling was linked to the thyroid thing (I'd put that along with the sore throat), but the watery discharge from the ear - hadn't realised that was linked. I get eczema in my ears too - is that linked then? Something else you mentioned - small ear canals. I have that too (have to have them syringed every couple of years or more) - is there any link there? So yes, you did trigger a comment on observations LOL! We run our central heating on 24, but I don't know what that equates to... I'm usually cold though, and husband is hot. Hope you have a good day today:-))) My kittens have landed safely in Australia:-)))) Love Chris Self replenishing fly paper... that's it exactly.. that is just it exactly! Shower and put on fresh clothes.. and I'm peeling the shirt off my sticky back 20 minutes after sitting in my chair! I'm rambling... I do that.... darn.... I'm stopping now... I hope I either reached a point or at least triggered some comments on observations....
