Hi Jill,

The only way I know to tell if you are in the nephrotic range is with a urine

test, either a creatinine protein ratio on a random, or with a 24 hour urine.

There is no way visually to tell how much protein you are spilling

unfortunately.

Most people with IgAN only have visible urine (cola colored) when they are

having a flare up. I would definitely ask your Neph about that if yours is

always dark.

I don't know of anything that would make IgAN look like a bladder infection.

Sorry to not be of more help on this one.

Nephrotic syndrome is called a " syndrome " because it's just a group of

symptoms. IgAN is the disease, and, if you happen to have heavy proteinuria

along with it, you may develop the symptoms of " nephrotic syndrome " .

Nephritic means blood in the urine, nephrotic means protein in the urine,

basically.
