Guest guest
Hi , My experience has been that post op pain immediately following the surgery is really minimal. Yes, I did like having the morphiene in the hospital and the Tylenol w/codiene after it - but I would have been able to tolerate the pain without complaining (too much anyway...I am the world's biggest chicken when it comes to pain). My surgeon prescribe Ultram after surgery - he says he believes it it the most effective medication for it. Maybe you can take that? I didn't take it after surgery...so I don't know how effective it is (being the chicken that I am I insisted on stronger medication ever before my surgical date....I couldn't imagine having upper and lower jaw surgery with just Ultram for pain. As it turns out, I probably would have been fine with it). I don't know what kind of cosmetic procedure you had - but I would be willing to guess it was a LOT more painful than orthognathic surgery because of the nerve being manipulated and causing numbness in most of the areas you would be experiencing pain. Out of all the things I have had to deal with (mine has not been an easy recovery)...I would say that the pain that immediately followed the surgery was one of the least troublesome. Good luck...I hope this info helps you. I would strongly suggest you research Ultram since it is a newer medication that works entirely different than the morphiene/percocet/codiene types of drugs. Well then why does everyone seem to take to much pain medication such as demerol, percocet & tylenol 3? Is this because in order to have no pain you must be medicated with these type of drugs? I ask because I am very allergic to almost all pain killers and really can only tolerate advil or tylenol. What will I do about the pain that all of you seem to be taking the narcotics to deal with? I can't have any of this type of medication. Also, have most of you had to take steroid medications after you leave the hospital or just in the IV while you are in the hospital? I had a cosmetic surgery procedure about 3 years ago and was prescibed a medrol dose pack that I took for 7 days after the surgery. Is this the type of steroids all of you are refering to?
