I found my lye from an uncle that makes chemical drain products here in

town. Check the yellow pages and see what you can come up with.

Hello. I was wondering what percentage of palm kernel oil would one

use? I heard that if you use too much it can be very drying just like

palm oil and coconut oil. Is this true. What is the difference

between palm oil and palm kernel oil? Thank you so much for you

patience.

Some fo's make a harder bar, some make a softer bar that hardens eventually.

Hey I have some awful gardenia here that really makes a firm bar, but does

it ever stink, Frontier stuff.

I can answer on the lye. I get mine from a chemical company locally. It's

called Harcos. I think they have various plants. I found them in the phone

book. =o)

And, no. Additives don't harden the soap. I've found that palm kernel oil

(I use flakes) harden it wonderfully. As does a touch of steric acid.

I just read, this weekend, that Palm Steric is the veggie version of Steric.

Not sure if that's correct or not.

I checked on palm oil and palm kernel oil in SMC's Soapmaker's Companion.

Interestingly enough, she didn't differentiate between the two very much

(palm and palm kernel). Odd ... I'll have to research it more as I'm quite

curious now.

However, when I make soap, I use coconut, palm oil and palm kernel oil (as

well as olive as the main oil). I use only about 4-5 oz of the pk oil.

That with the steric produces a very wonderfully hard bar.

*off to check out palm and palm kernel oil* Let you now what I find out!

Yes and no. Palm Steric is " palm steric acid " or you can buy steric acid

that can some from animal fats also. If it does not state, you don't know

what you are getting.
