Guest guest
I hope I am not too late on the " best pump " thread...working mom, you know :-( I have to say that having a good quality pump is the key to successful pumping. I had a really bad pump with my daughter and by the time I had to go back to work I decided I just did not have enough milk ...so I only nursed morning and night and no pumping at work. With my son I am using the Ameda/Engell Purely YOurs and it is GREAT! First time I used it (do any of you remember?) I got about 4 0z compared to 1-2 oz with the old crummy pump. I really felt that I could do this. I still have some supply problems as my right breast rarely gets more than 1 oz...but at least with pumping on weekends and my freezer full of milk I am able to feed him only breastmilk for 11 hrs a day. A good idea is to get extra sets of horns/flanges so that you can pack all this up the night before and don't have to assemble, wash, dry etc. at work 3 X's per day. Also, I started pumping daily for 3 mos. prior to going back to work and froze it all. Not only did it help my supply, but also got me used to the pump which made going back to work a lot easier. I also had over a gallon of milk in the freezer (40 bottles) when I went back...now I may have to rush to use it all before the 4 mos. date in the freezer...eeek. I may have to cut back to pumping twice per day (work is crazy and don't want the pumping to be an " issue " )...and kind of like saying " good bye " to your pump it is sad to cut back and know the milk will go away :-( Best of luck to any mom going back to work....FYI my SIl is a teacher and she used a manual pump in the ladies restroom during her break and had more milk than she could possibly used. I am still amazed!
