Hi,

My daughter Lainey is about to graduate from her 2nd band and her jaw

is still lower on the right side. Twice in the past week, she's woken

up during the night SCREAMING and seems like she can't close her

mouth. She won't take her pacifier, won't drink a bottle, nothing can

console her. It really appears that her jaw is locked open. I've

heard that down the road, the jaw assymetry can cause TMJ. Has anyone

had problems with jaws locking this early? She's 10mos old. Should I

take her to a dentist?

Thanks so much.

,

This is nothing to play around with or wait on. You should have her

seen first by your ped and then get referred to a pediatric oral

maxiofacial surgeon, they are will know about the jaw the best. I have

severe TMJ, jaw does lock open, both disc are slipped and it is hell.

Have her looked at to be sure it is not something serious. Hopefully it

will be something small like molars coming in and causing swelling. Let

me know how it goes.

The surgeon couldn't fit her in any sooner, although they were worried and wanted me to talk to her pediatrician about it. After describing it to her ped, he seems to think they might be seizures! Not what I was expecting to hear, but looking back I guess that would make sense with how she acts at the time that it's happening. If it's not one thing it's another! During the night when they wake up and go back to sleep, there is alot of yawning and that is my worst enemy sometimes. When I am bad I have to hold my jaw closed if it yawn or it will lock. This may be what's going on. You are right on the ball getting the surgeon already, great job,MOM!!! Let me know if they can see her

sooner. CAROLG> >> > Hi,> > My daughter Lainey is about to graduate from her 2nd band and her jaw > > is still lower on the right side. Twice in the past week, she's > woken
