Hi Clara,

Yes, I read in the book, Feeling Fat, Fuzzy, or

Frazzled? by Shames that pantothenic acid is very

important for the adrenals. I take some in a B Complex

vitamin and multivitamin but have considered adding

extra. I have a friend who swears by it. I think she

takes 1000mg a day!

Thank you Marlena,

I am taking 250 mg. panothenic acid per day right now. Know that

it is a very important thing to be taking, just don't know how much! I

will continue to try everything that is suggested here on the group.

I am taking selenium by eating the brazil nuts and also use cinnamon. I

am trying to stay away from corn and corn oil, but don't know what other

things are not good to be eating when we have thyroid disease.

I am on a very low dose of synthroid right now...35mg. per day. Will see

my doctor on the 5 of October for results to tests taken on Sept. 28.

Thanks to all of you, I now know what tests to ask for and not to take NO

for an answer.

I would be grateful for anything else you can tell me.

Hi Clara,

In the book I mentioned before, Dr Shames recommends

250mg pantothenic acid 2-3x/day for adrenal support

....

There are a bunch of other foods to avoid if you are

hypo: unfermented soy products, uncooked brassica

family vegetables, tapioca, almonds. There is a long

list of goitrogens (foods that interfere with the

thyroid) ...

Is the dose of synthroid you are taking helping you?

Most people need T3 along with T4 or at least a much

higher dose of T4. Definitely report your test results

when you get them!

Marlena,

I really don't know if the 35mcg that I am taking daily helps me

or not. In April of this year I ask my doctor about taking more. I was

only taking 25 at the time. This is exactly what he said, well, you could

take maybe a half of a pill more a day or take one, one day and two the

next...I then as him about taking Armour. This is what he said, " Well, I

don't know if that stuff is good enough to be taking. I'd rather you stay

on the synthroid. " So...this is what I have been doing, and I still don't

feel very good most days. It is a chore just to get around. I need to

walk because I am a diabetic too. It is very hard to lose weight for the

diabetes when you have thyroid disease, because you don't feel like doing

anything, and it is especially hard when you don't have a doctor who

chooses to work with you.

Just to give you a little back ground on me...I am almost 70, 5'

7 " and I weigh 200 lbs. I am supposed to lose at least 10 lbs, but find

it impossible, not only now but it's been this way for about 6 years, but

since taking the synthroid I am at least maintaining. I am an active

person, doing everything I can around home, but it doesn't seem like it

is ever enough. I do get depressed sometimes because it seems like

nothing works.

Thanks for listening, Clara

Hi Clara,

Is there any way you can go to a new doctor? One who

is more open-minded and informed about thyroid

disease. It sounds like you need a higher dose and

some T3 probably. Do you have your last lab results?

I'm sorry you are feeling this way but I admire how

much you do at 70! I'm 29 and having a really rough

time with my treatment -- I too have a hard time just

getting around and doing the minimal to survive : ( --

but I've learned a lot and I'm trying hard to maintain

hope and faith that I will be able to resume my life

again!

Hi Marlena, thanks for responding so soon. Everyone in the group is wonderful in trying to help one another. When I know more, I will surely share it with others.

I called today for an appointment with a new doctor. Will see her on Friday to get aquainted and see how she feels about treating me for my diseases.

Will try and post my results as soon as I know anything.

And remember to never give up. At any age, we can't afford too! Hugs, Clara
