Ok I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism early July my TSH = 6.68, T4 = .8, T3 = not tested.

I was tossed a prescription of Synthroid 0.1 MG (100 MCG). He wanted me on this for approximately 6 weeks before I went for blood work again... Ok I just got my results today TSH = .041, T4 = 1.6 and T3 = 30, with the norm for this lab being T4=0.8-1.8, T3=22-35 and I didn't catch the TSH norm, I know it was like a 5 something last time being th high.

Now the confusion...... I am astonished at the dramatic difference in my TSH level 6.68 to a .041??? In SIX WEEKS??????? Is this even possible????? I never expected to have my levels change so dramatically in such a short time. And I also thought once they were "leveling out" I would feel something, better, or something!!!! I still feel like crap, I have the energy level of a sloth, my feet feel like I am walking on bones and I KNOW my body hasn't even had one thought of loosing even an ounce of this weight. (even with the heat index these days around 105)

Short and sweet what do you think????

Thanks

Sonya

Hello Soyna,

After the Doc gives you Synthroid it takes about 2 months before it

completely works in your body, They usely start you off at a low

dose of 20 or 30mg, Then work there way up.It is a long pain in the

neck process.

Looks like you went from Hypo to Hyper because the gave you to much

to fast. I sure they told you to lower the dosage.

As you read more about Hypothyroid on these boards and other places

you will find out that you need to know alot about your Hypo, Don't

always count on your Doctor knowing everything. Most people on the

boards are on Armour Thyroid. Very few were or are happy on

Synthroid.

Armour is a natural thyroid(from pig) Synthroid is a synthidic.

Some people are still fighting low enegry levels (fatigue), they

take --Adrenalin. But most people feel fine when they are on their

right dose of meds by blood test shown or some self med or some have

Docs that go by symptoms

Lose wieght,LOL. The meds really don't help that much in that area.

They will help you level off so you don't go up and down. But you

will really need to read up on that it is not easy to lose when you

are Hypo.

My adivice find a good Doc that knows what they are doing(Hard to

find)

Don't let Doctors tell you are fine when you know you are not. Read

Read Read about Hypo.

And these boards are great. full of info and nice people.

  • 2 weeks later...

Very late in answering, so sorry, but I just haven't been keeping up lately. Anyway, your TSH demonstrates how unreliable that particular test is, EXCEPT for the original diagnosis, OFF of thyroid hormones taken by mouth. This demonstrates that the pituitary itSELF also no longer demonstrates "normality", as IT is another body part that has been severely affected by the disease. It WAS designed to be the correct signal for thyroid hormone production, that is, when it's in it's "perfect" state of "work", BUT, with thyroid disease, it's simply another body part that's in severe need of the thyroid hormone, as it receives it's chemical "signals" from other thyroid-hormone-sick body parts, sort of like the "domino effect". When the hormone is being taken by mouth, it may very well respond in a very abnormal way to a SMALL introduction to the outer thyroid hormone. Also, when the thyroid goes into a "resting" state (Ahhhhh, I see that the main production has been taken off of me just a little bit, so I think I'll go into a sort of hybernation here), the thyroid slows down whatever production it has/had left. So why wouldn't the pituitary respond appropriately, the way it USED to, when it sees the thyroid production itself go down? Theory---it's in a very confused state, because it can no longer receive the appropriate signals from "self" methods, as in the natural way, which was it's original job, and it is physically as sick as the rest of the body cells, when it is struck by thyroid disease and cellular malfunction, so IT'S not doing anything that it was originally supposed to. Doctors who haven't made any real study of this simply don't understand what has happened here, even though many do care, they do NOT understand this. MY bone to pick with them is, IF they are so concerned, are they willing to "swallow it" and learn this, for their patients' sakes. You know, when you build a bypass bridge, designed to go over a railroad track, so that the traffic won't be stuck there any more? That's kind of what taking thyroid hormone by mouth is, to me. Trouble is, though, is that the railroad track is ALSO having a train wreck at the same time (pituitary), while the xtra thyroid hormone is treating the body, which will never again receive what it needs again in the original "grand plan" of things.
