Hi Amy,

http://www.aap.org/

The American Academy of Pediatrics says to wait until 6 months to introduce

solids. I had the same run in with our ped and my mother. Stick to your

guns...you are the mom here and you know what is best for your baby. (of

course I can't find the article now...)

Our ped also suggested starting with Rice cereal, but from what I

understand, babies don't digest rice well until after 9 months. When I did

start solids I switched to Oatmeal real quick.... I started solids at 5 1/2

months and it didn't go well so I stopped and started again 2 weeks later.

He will be 9 months old on Saturday and he's just now starting to eat solids

well. He still prefers either a bottle or to nurse. (He gets bottles because

I have to work.)

Some people say that you should be consistent in the time you feed. I don'

think I've ever given Will anything at the same time 2 days in a row!

We went through the stage 1 foods first. I didn't move to stage 2 until

after he ate a full jar of the stage 1...that took about 2 months!

Hope this helps!

Patty

Re: Re: feeding literature

hi! I'm new, my name is & I have 2 daughters

(1/5/98) and Sydney (11/3/99) I didn't introduce solids to

until she was 6 months old & even then it wasn't on a regular basis

& she did just fine, my pediatrician couldn't give enough praise on

how healthy she was and how wonderful i was for continuing bf.

eventually started taking solids regularly but was ALWAYS

content with just nursing, she was quite put out when i had to wean her

because i was 3 months pg w/Sydney & sick as a dog! Let them get around

to solids when they are receptive, after all they'll be eating solids for

the rest of their

lives, right?
