My husband actually came down with a similar condition all of a sudden last winter. The doctor said it was exzema and gave him a steroid cream to put on it...he usually heals up within a day or two once he starts using the medication...which is amazing if you were to see how deep and severe some of the splits and cracks are.

Untill you can get some meds for this, I would reccomend putting on the heaviest lotion you can find. Actually I hear even plain old Crisco from the kitchen is one of the best things you can put on it, slather it all over your hands then put plastic gloves on to hold that moisture in. If you can go to sleep and keep it that way overnight you will likely see a huge improvement. I know it's uncomfortable (or so I hear!) But it's also VERY worth it!

take care, I hope you get some relief!Ayla

Does anyone suffer similar?

I am concerned about this, as because of my lymphedema, I can get serious infections(like I did last year)very easily..

Pard, are you eating or drinking anything that you didn't before this started? I'm wondering if it's something along the line of an allergic reaction?

I have severe itching, in cycles, in my fingers and the fleshy part at the base of my thumb... no where else.... But I still can't find a trigger source to start it... it's not related to food or meds, is not cyclical in relation to my period.

.... just thinking out loud.... You've been having trouble with rashes for quite a while now.... I wonder how it might be linked to the lymph.. I'm behind in the lymph group, have you posted over there?

No. Pard, I have not changed anything with my eating and/or drinking...

It seems cyclic too, although maybe more stress related...

and more and more likely lupus, too....

No, I have not posted lately at the lymph group but that is a great idea. I did post at Immune and Sjo we care,though...

Hi ,

I suffered with severely cracked and bleeding hands

very badly about 20 years ago. A friend suggested I

use Neutrogena hand cream (Not sure if you can get it

in the USA). It was developed to protect the hands of

swedish fishermen! From that time I have protected my

hands with a barrier cream, I have worn gloves in the

winter and household gloves when doing any chores. I

don't allow my hands to touch any detergents, cleaning

agents or chemicals.

This could be a form of excema which is, I think

common in HypT folks?

Sounds like a contact dermatitis to me , but I

don't know from what. I can affirm that yes, indeed,

the skin on your wrists can peel. I peeled literally

from head to toe after my surgery in January,

including the skin on the bottom of my feet, my palms

and between my fingers and toes. My feet are still a

bit tender, but the calluses are building back up.
