Guest guest
Hi All I just got off the phone with Medicare and Mayo takes Medicare..but I may have to pay them from a check Medicare sends me.I'm having terrible pain in my bile duct....The intake worker asked me if I had test lately..No, I have not..I don't want to have test here then pay for them again at Mayo plus the trip. I guess I will drive up..It's 700 miles from Ohio...She asked me to have my doctor call them and she will..My family doctor has been after me to go up north... So I need to know from those who have been to Mayo MN. Where to stay? How hard is it to get around the area? Can I ask for a Doctor or do they assign you the doctor ? Do I have to take someone with me or can I go by myself ? Thank You, in Georgia from Ohio
Guest guest
Hi - we've only been there once for a week (going again Saturday for 10 days). If you go to the www.mayoclinic.com website*, they have some excellent maps that show where lodging is relative to the Clinic. We stayed at the Kahler Inn & Suites the first time because it was connected to the subway directly accessible to Mayo, a 5-minute walk (they offer rates for medical needs). This time we're staying at Holiday Inn City Centre, also easily accessible to clinic. (*If you go to www.mayo.com, you'll get the Hellman's Mayonnaise site - ha!) When (if) Brad begins radiation/chemo, we will try to get into the Gift of Life Transplant House or Hope Lodge. Information about those places is also at the MayoClinic website. We found the area around Mayo to be very easy to get around, if one is able to walk. And if a wheelchair is needed, there are wheelchairs everywhere you turn. Hope this helps a bit, .
