Guest guest
Have been having serious heart palps for almost a month. Two weeks ago, the new Dr. said it was more likely to be the hypo, and had several blood tests done, thyro #'s weren't where they were supposed to be, and gave me a new rx, for 100 mcg Levoxyl(taking this for two weeks). Was on .075 mcg for almost ten years, old Dr. was an idiot! I left feeling wonderful, my problems are fixed, right? Wrong... today I rushed myself to the Dr. w/ shortness of breath, very heavy heart palps, heavy chest, etc. The Dr. put me on a holter monitor for the next two days, and wants me to start taking 1/2 pill of 25 mg Atenolol (sp) to slow my heart down. I'm 31, and not big on the idea of becoming a pill popper. Should I wait and see if the thyro level evens out over the next two weeks, I hate feeling this way, it causes even more anxiety and mood swings, etc. Is there ever an end? Oh, and how do you get into the chat room? > > MVP (Mitral Valve Prolapse) has these exact symptoms and is very very common in hypothyroid people, due to this being more muscle tissue affected by being chronically hypo. This is a heart valve, but does not have to be an extremely serious condition, only if the ventricles are affected, with blood leaking backward. The mitral valve is that floppy little valve you see moving downward and flopping back up to the heart. You can see why hypo would affect it. After all, our muscle tissues are severely affected in this disease, especially if we don't get proper treatment for quite some time (yrs). MVP does induce an anxiety attack, with the flip flopping of heart palps, then speeded up temporarily, almost taking the breath away sometimes. There is communication with the adrenal glands, usually, when this happens, so that's where the chemicals originate that cause something similar to an anxiety attack. > > > > RE: Re: Medication question/panic attack stuff > > > I probably confuse > the doctors an awful lot with my symptons because the majority are > probably anxiety related, probably even the dizziness and heavy > feeling in my head. > > > > Carol > > > > Carol, I think a bit of it IS emotional, because when we feel whizzy & queasy & weird.. it is THEN that we panic & it adds to the chemical mix we already have.. if this makes sense.. but the panic isn't the full story.. a bit like the joke ' Just 'cos I'm paranoid, it doesn't mean they are NOT out to get me !' >

Guest guest
Thanks Chris. I will keep this in mind when I talk to the Dr. on Monday. I asked for T3 testing and it wasn't done, they said I'd have to go to another lab for that, it wasn't done in the Dr.'s office like the TSH and T4 tests. I'm confident that things will sort out with the thyro issues, but I don't want to take the heart meds till I think the new thyro meds have fully kicked in. I'm just grateful right now that the new Dr. didn't think I was crazy and just try to give me anti-anxiety meds, like my old quack Dr. When will they realize that some of us actually do some homework on our physical problems before we come knocking on their doors? lol Thanks for the encouragement. > > Hi , > > First of all, don't panic too much. I was put under a heart specialist,in hospital with irregular heartbeat (they thought I was having a heart attack) angina, shortness of breath, and I actually wondered if I'd got fluid on the chest too, but with the right medication (Armour worked for me) I was discharged from the heart specialist, told I didn't need the atenalol, or the aspirin any more, and things have all settled down now, so if you get the thyroid thing sorted, you might well find that all the rest clicks into place. Before I was on Armour I was on 125 mcgs synthetic T4 but it wasn't doing what it needed to do so I was left with a heap of problems that I didn't realise were associated with thyroid. Half an hour after I took the first Armour tablet it was like a miracle LOL! I'm not saying that Armour will definitely work for everyone, but it did for me and I think if you can get the right thyroid medication for you, there is a good chance the heart thing will be sorted. So, chin up, and I wish you good health quickly:- )))) Love Chris > > > > Have been having serious heart palps for almost a month.
