I am sorry that it has been slow going so far. It can take longer with

an older baby. When you say you have been weaning him out of the band,

I assume this means he has not been wearing it for the 23 hours a day

and that can make progress even slower. The Pt who said to leave him in

the band for the next three weeks is this the ortho from CT?

Actually I think 40% correction is encouraging at such an older age!

Don't get down about it. You should feel good about it!

Were you advised to only wear the band at night? I've never heard

that recommended with a DOC Band. They need to be worn for 23 hours.

We went to the same place as you too.

Actually I think 40% correction is encouraging at such an older age!

Don't get down about it. You should feel good about it!

Well the head only really grows at night and while they are sleeping.

I knew that from the start. Babies grow in general while they are

sleeping which is why they need more sleep when they are growing.

Anyway it was evident that my sons head has not grown in the last

month and the band began sitting really low. I saw no point in

keeping it in it during the day when his head was not growing at

all . I can tell when my son is having a growth spurt, and when that

happens I may leave the band on for the 23 hours. But I don't see a

point in him wearing the band when his head is not growing and hasn't

in a month. I hope that his head is not done growing which is while I

am keeping him in it at night...to try and catch a final growth

spurt. I hope this made things clearer. My son is supposed to be

done with the band but keeping him in it at night for the next few

weeks can't hurt.

I think you are thinking of a passive band. Growth spurts will definitely speed things up but change can also happen when the child isn't growing by leaps and bounds. My dd barely grew 2 lbs while she was banded but she still corrected nicely.

Check this out. From the last paragraph: Rather than waiting for the head to grow into a symmetric mold, Cranial Technologies designed a system that immediately applied a corrective force to the prominent areas of the skull where there was no need for growth, while leaving room for growth in the adjacent flattened regions.

I think you are thinking of a passive band. Growth spurts will definitely speed things up but change can also happen when the child isn't growing by leaps and bounds. My dd barely grew 2 lbs while she was banded but she still corrected nicely.

Sorry if I am confusing everyone. I mean the head has to grow, there

has to be growth for the flattened area to " grow " or fill in. My

son's head is what has not grown but maybe a 1/2 cm (don't quote me)

in the whole 4 months. But from my undrestanding the band does not

change the head shape by the pressure, it redirects growth - emphasis

on growth. Thats what I mean when I say growth spurt in reference to

the band, my son has not had any head growth or change in a month.

Hi! Just wanted to try to encourage you. My daughter is 17 months old

and 6 weeks from finishing DOC Band #2. We have not seen amazing

correction either (she's a low-severe brachy) but we started at 11 1/2

months. We are very pleased with the facial assymetry correction. I am

disappointed however that CT gave us great hope to expect closer to 80%

correction when we'll be lucky if we get 50%. Having said that, there

were never any guarantees and we're happy that we definitely consider

the treatment a success. I want to emphasize our satisfaction with the

correction acieved so far.

About growth spurts, her band adjustments have been mild throughout.

But I put a pair of biboveralls on her the other day that she had once

tripped in due to their length and suddenly, less than 10 days since

wearing them last, they were flood pants. If only it could have been

her head to hit such a spurt!

Hang in there! I'm going to ask CT about keeping the band on for a few

more weeks while she sleeps (beyond the 6 she has remaining) if they

feel it could make any more improvement. I doubt it, because after 17

weeks the pressure holds wear out, but it can't hurt to ask.

Now I can't wait to see if mall strangers and restaurant staff really

think she's adorable and cute or if they've been overcompensating for

the last 7 months! LOL
