internal AND external splint ?

Hi everyone,

I'm still lurking on this board, but can't really send message

because of my lingering RSI. Yesterday I went to the orthodontist to

have my upper braces fitted on (I've been wearing lower only since

Oct. last year). Sore, sore teeth of coarse, but manageable. I'm now

wearing elastic bands as well, I never had those before and what a

treat ! They link my upper and lower braces on both sides so that I

only have limited opening. Not something I can recommend, but hey,

I'll get used to them.

The reason why I'm posting is this : I spoke to the ortho's assistant

about her friend's surgery. She said that her friend didn't only have

to wear a splint, but some sort of external harness as well to keep

everything in place. She had a really hard time because of that. Has

anyone of you heard of an " external " splint, some sort of headgear I

assume, that has to be worn together with the " internal " splint ? It

doesn't sound like much fun.
