Guest guest
You may want to get your B12 checked. I take B12 injections and was taking them once a month and getting leg cramps when it was time for my shots. My doctor increased my shots to every two weeks and the leg cramps are gone. ita

Guest guest
I am interested in this as well - I have been getting lots of cramps since going GF myself. My doctor tested blood levels of several nutrients and they were all normal. Is there something in wheat bread that we're not getting? Niacin? --Trudy San , CA "People who believe in absurdities will eventually commit atrocities." ~Voltaire -------------- Original message -------------- Hello everyone,I am new here and am so excited to NOT be alone in this. I am newly diagnosed (12/8/05) and have gone through a whole gamut of emotions. I feel like I am getting well. Of course I know these frustrations will last a lifetime. Here is my question... For about the last 3 or 4 weeks, I have gotten severe charlie horses in the back of my calf. IT's the same calf. What happens is, I'm walking upstairs or a slight incline and my calf just twists in pain..then I'm sore for about 4 days and have 1 day of feeling great..then it happens again!! HELP. I'm so frustrated by this. I walk alot for work and have to dress professionally but it's difficult when your calf is twisted up in pain. I'm taking vitamin C, Calcium with D and I'm on an acid reflux prescription. I can't pin point what could be causing this. Any help would be appreciated! I have enjoyed getting my emails and finding out more about this "disease". Thank you all so much and look forward to getting to know everyone!! Guest guest
Kim, Welcome and you probably have a potassium deficiency. I had terrible cramps in my legs and feet around the time I was diagnosed and my doctor even wanted to have me take quinine. But instead I ate at least 1/2 a banana a day, preferrable one banana a day and the cramps went away in about two days. Most of us suffer from malnutrition, even the ones who are overweight--me because we were not absorbing our food properly. So take heart, after you've been on a gluten free diet for awhile you will get better. Shirley in San Diego"emrald.rm" wrote: Hello everyone,I am new here and am so excited to NOT be alone in this. Guest guest
Potassium loss is often the cause.Try eating potassium rich foods and take an Advil before going to bed. Keep your legs warm at night with sox. Hope that helps, Doreen Re: Charlie Horse/Leg cramps I am interested in this as well - I have been getting lots of cramps since going GF myself. Guest guest
Also, I am told that low blood calcium may be a cause of leg cramps. I for one, got a heart arrythmia from my potassium deficiancy. Its going away, but not completely gone now that I am gf for 2+ months. I take ptassium, but I don't think I'm fully absorbing it. > >Reply-To: SillyYaks >To: SillyYaks >Subject: Re: Charlie Horse/Leg cramps >Date: Fri, 6 Jan 2006 08:20:27 -0800 (PST) > >Kim, Welcome and you probably have a potassium deficiency. Guest guest
Well I went to the dr today. Could barely walk for work. Of course I came out of there knowing nothing. They put me on a prescription that I can't afford to get..after christmas...haha. It's supposed to be an anti inflammatory with a coating as to not upset my stomach. It's $40!! I'd rather just take 2 advil. The only reason I went to the dr is because this leg seemed to be hurting so much before I was diagnosed. Kind of a restless leg syndrome. Now that has subsided a bit and then the cramps for the last 3 weeks. Like I said I'm new to this and will start noticing lots of different things. I was so scared about the mouth sores I was getting then looked on here and someone had brought up that issue! PHEW! Anyways, good news this evening..found an obscure brand of tortilla crumbs...gluten free..marked on the package. Looks just like bread crumbs!! I seasoned and made them into fried chicken strips!! YUM!!! The southern girl in me is ECSTATIC!!lol Once again..thank you all for your help!! Kim Hello everyone, > >I am new here and am so excited to NOT be alone in this.
