Guest guest
I bought the KA mixer at Costco. I actually had in my home both the Costco Professional model and the Wal-Mart Classic model. I didn't notice a huge noise difference, not enough to make me leave the room or need ear plugs. I had a Sunbeam mix master for the past 10 years, it made noise, louder on high actually. It never occurred to me that this was a problem. I've been around stand mixers all my life -- Sunbeams to be precise, every woman in my family. Kitchen appliances make noise and that is all there is too it. My Wolfgang Polk Blender/ food processor is just as noisy as the Oster I had. So, noise aside... I had to adjust the bowl lift to get the paddle in the right place and I feel like I could have it closer, but the screw will turn no more. I was slightly disappointed with the beating action of cookies b/c it doesn't appear to get everything and yet to use a spatula, you have to turn it off, lower the bowl, scrap and then lift the bowl back and turn it back on... And yet the major gripe I had about the Sunbeam is that I had to stand there with a spatula and scrap the bowl continuously with the beaters running (you don't know how many spatulas I've broken or how many time my dh has unmangled the beaters) and butter was just borring standing there turning the bowl... Now the KA did mead my bread terrifically. I mixed with the cookie paddle until the last 2 cups of flour at which point I put the dough hook on - given enough time to do it's job, it did (and maybe patiences with the machine grabbing the ingredients is key). I did rolls, I can't imagine doubling the recipe in the mixer, but it says it will do it. I imagine with more in the bowl, it could get quite messy. I will probably try butter today. I take the cream off our raw organic milk that I pick up 1X a week and make butter (unless I know I need the cream for something). Hmmm... that heavy cream in pancakes for my super skinny boys... I might have to try that. I don't think my girl needs it, but those weight and height charts have her being below the 25%. So, I guess it couldn't hurt. Once the gluten was out of my ds2's system, dairy has not been an issue. And to think I was diary free nursing him for 14 months and we kept milk away from him b/c it caused a rash with the diarhea. He still won't drink milk, but at least he can have real milk on his gluten free cereal. Rejoyce
