Guest guest
>>> A couple of years ago I read in an article in the Dallas Morning News that the Dallas Independent School District employs 7 administrators for every classroom teacher. Does that give anyone a hint about what's wrong with education? <<< A very important lesson I learned long ago is that if it doesn't sound true, it probably isn't. According to the DISD web site, the district employs 19,813 people of which 10,475 (53%) are teachers. The remaining 9,338 people are administrators, counselors, librarians, nurses, technical personnel, psychologists, diagnosticians, food services personnel, custodians, maintenance workers, teacher assistants, secretaries, clerks, campus security officers, clinic attendants, nurse assistants, and other support staff. A 7:1 administrator to teacher ratio does not appear to be possible. Kenny Navarro
Guest guest
Kenny, How are they defining teachers and administrators? Are principals, assistant principals, and vice principals included in the numbers they report as being teachers? Or are they administration? What is the ratio of actual classroom instructors to administrators, counting all folks with a principal title as administrators? Don't count principals as teachers, because they do not teach. Perhaps the DMN was looking at actual classroom teachers and putting principals in with administration. I don't know. That's what I recall the DMN article saying. What percentage of the DISD budget is spent on actual classroom teachers, excluding teachers aides and all other support services?
